  1. I just got a call today from the admissions office. In with a 20% tuition scholarship. That's two schools down, four to go for me...

Anyone else applying to the GPIA at New School?

    Hey D-Lux,

I was also accepted into the GPIA program at the New School with a 20% tuition scholarship. I was also accepted into NYU MS Global Affairs SCPS program, but I am waiting to hear on funding. I am not sure where I want to go just yet neither of these schools were my top choices.

  2. I am finding this forum super helpful! I just received a phone call from the New School, and I was accepted into their MA International Affairs with a 20% tuition scholarship. YAY! Now I just need to hear back from NYU on funding.

NYU MS Global Affairs vs New School MA International Affairs...what to do?! I guess I'll have to visit the campuses...any ideas/suggestions?

  3. Congrats to everyone that was accepted!

What concentration are you most interested in? What are your thoughts on the program?

My main concern is the tuition. I have no clue how I am going to pay 16k a semester when I already owe close to 35k from undergrad. -_-. I'll be in debt for the rest of my life! I mean how much are you willing to pay to have NYU on your resume? lol

  4. I received an acceptance email this weekend. Yay! Now, I'm just super concerned about tuition. It is about 16k per semester! Luckily, I live at home in NYC. I'll probably commute. Apparently, we should hear about funding at the end of this month, at least that is what their Financial Aid Office told me. Right now, I think it is up the air. Anyone is planning on attending NYU MS Global Affairs Fall 2011?

  5. Hi!

I am graduating this May, and I've decided to take a year off to gain some work experience. The Graduate Institute really caught my attention especially by the bi-lingual environment. Is anyone aware of how Americans are admitted into their International Affairs Masters, if they even have a set number. How is funding for international students? How competitive is admission into the program? I would like to work with international organizations, so I thought Geneva would be a great place to apply. Any suggestions on making my application more competitive? Thanks!

  6. i know for the rangel you can defer the fellowship and grad school for one year if you receive a fulbright, i'm not sure about the pickering though

I was unaware of that. I have yet to hear back from the schools I applied to. Depending on how that turns out, I was thinking about taking a year off to gain more experience. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

  7. i interviewed on monday as well - do you think they are going to have to cut the number of fellows this year?

in other news, the pickering is announcing finalists april 2nd... but i wonder if they are going to have the same problem as the rangel

I did receive that email from the Pickering program. A lot of it has to do with the federal budget. After all, it was only extended for three weeks. I just received an email from Patricia about the problem.

  8. We were supposed to find out today, but the Rangel program informed us today that notifications have been postponed due to State Department funding issues. Waiting. Sucks. Still trying to keep a positive outlook though ehhh

Really? wow. I was a finalist myself, and I interviewed on Tuesday. What day did you interview? I was wondering why I never received a call or email. geez. Well, I wish you the best.

Did you apply for the Pickering as well?

  9. I'm actually applying for International Development/Global Affairs/International Affairs/MSFS/MAAS programs as well at American, NYU, New School, and Georgetown. I scored a 450 V and 470 Q...yea not so good. I took it again, and I got the same thing!! ohmy.gif

Now the rest of my application is very competitive: coming out of undergrad

Overall 3.45 GPA Major GPA 3.75

BS Internationals Studies and BA Political Science awarded in May 2011

    minors French and Leadership

2 internships - One with the U.S. State Department abroad

fluent in Spanish/French and beginner fluency in Arabic

    a lot of volunteer/leadership activities

    several honor societies

    great letters of recommendation

studied abroad in France over the summer

lots of traveling to the Dominican Republic

    what are my chances?!

  10. I would love some advice from fellow applicants on what to do about low GRE scores.

I took the GREs for the first time today and scored a 430 Verbal and 610 Quantitative. The international development programs I am applying to (at Columbia, American, Denver, UCSD, Johns Hopkins) have higher averages than what I scored. However, I do not have time to retake the exam even if I wanted to in order to be eligible for Fall 2011. I had a 3.4 GPA for undergrad and three years of solid relevant work experience. My recommendations should also be very strong.

I return from working abroad next Summer and think the timing is perfect to return to school. Do I have a chance, or should I postpone until 2012? Thanks!

I'm actually applying for ID programs as well at American, NYU, New School, and Georgetown. I scored a 450 V and 470 Q...yea not so good. I took it again, and I got the same thing!! ohmy.gif
