  1. Silly question: CSD= Com Sci & Dis, yes? Keep trying to find shadow/volunteer placements, don't give up! They are out there. It is very tough to stand out in this field because there are so many applicants. Apply to as many schools as you can afford to increase your chances. I'll keep you fingers crossed for you!
  2. Hi, Caro! What are you GRE scores? I have friends who have 3.5-3.8 GPAs with GREs between 800-1000 that didn't get into any schools they applied to. They each applied to 5-8 schools; some were well know, some were lower ranked schools. The one thing I learned from this application season is that there is no such thing as a "safety/easy" school. My biggest tip would be to do some research on ASHA's EdFinder and see the average GPA/GRE scores for every school in the states you're interested in (you can also check the results search here and look at stats but these are less official, obiviously). Then check out the websites of the schools you're interested in. Try to go to open houses and make connections with faculty. Start your SOP now and revise revise revise!! Also, make sure you have killer LORs. If you haven't taken the GRE yet, study as much as you can. Have you thought about retaking any classes to boost your GPA? Bottom line: don't give up! This process is brutal but never let it stop you from following your passion. I have found this board to be so helpful and full of support. Good luck!
  3. I almost put on mine "To intelligibility... and beyond!" Instead I'm being boring and going with my undergrad major's initials/2011 and ECU/ '13. I was also tempted to put my new mascot on (a pirate) with some type of /r/ joke.
  4. From the dept.'s website FAQs: What are the minimum scores required? The general rule for admission to the graduate program is that your test scores should be at or above the 30th percentile either on the GRE (verbal+quantitative sections) or MAT.In general, if you have a low GPA, your test scores should be higher, or with a high GPA, you may have lower test scores. Your recommendations letters are also important. So that would be ~390+V, ~520+Q, and ~3.5/4.0+A. If I were you, I'd strongly consider retaking the GRE after doing some serious studying. Good luck!
  5. East Carolina! I live in NJ and just went down to find a place to live. I can't get over how fast this semester is going, I only have 7 classes left before graduation. Congrats to those that have decided and good luck to those still waiting.
  6. I took Kaplan and I really connected with the program. I have friends who took it and hated it. I knew I was going to have a hard time with the GREs and I planned accordingly. I took an in person course from Oct. '09-Jan.'10 and then studied EVERY DAY until my test date of Sept. 1st '10. My first practice test was about 850 and my first (and only) GRE score was 640 V 670 Q 4.5 A. For most schools in my field that is a strong score and I ended up getting multiple funded offers. I attribute that, in part, to my GRE scores. Kaplan isn't for every student but the money I spent came back to me thirty fold in scholarships.
  7. Congrats! That is so exciting. Let me know if you are looking for a roommate
  8. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! What part of PA are you from?
  9. Vandy was my dream school. I got a 1310 on my GRE, 4.0GPA, clinical experience (my school doesn't have a grad program so this allows the undergrads to get lots of experience), great LORs, and my research interests fit perfectly with Vandy. I had met with a POI at the ASHA convention and he was very positive about my chances for admission. Boy, was I blind sided when I got that rejection! It just goes to show you that you never know what they are looking for. On the bright side, I did get several funded offers which softened the blow. I would say do everything you can to get over the 1000 mark but really aim higher if you have your heart set on funding or Vandy. Good luck!!
  10. I know this is a long shot, but is anyone else going to ECU this fall? I'm relocating from NJ so this will be a big move and an adventure for me.
  11. Just found out I got funding at ECU!!! AHHH I'M SO HAPPY!!! Sorry, had to get that out of my system. NC, here I come! Good luck everyone.
  12. I had called Hofstra to check on my status last week and they said they had mailed out my letter but were not allowed to tell me of my status over the phone. I live in NJ and thought it would be here on Tuesday by the latest. Still nothing in the mail but I got an email with details for the accepted students reception. I guess that means I'm in? So confused!
  13. HUGE congrats!!! Can I ask how you were notified? If it was via postal, where do you live and what was the postmark? I'm in NJ so it will take 1+ more days. UGH! Congrats again.
  14. This is pretty much what I was thinking. I am really confused if the letters are going out on the 10th, how are we supposed to magically have them by the 11th? After all of this I'm going to be crushed if it is a rejeciton!
  15. Did anyone else get a weird email from Vanderbilt? It pretty much says that letters will be sent out "no later than Thursday, March 7, 2011." What is up with this date? I feel like I'm going crazy! EDIT: just got an email correcting the date. Letters will be mailed March 10th. Good luck to everyone!!!
  16. East Carolina sent out some acceptances via email today. Good luck to all that applied there!!
  17. Thank you and in a word: YES! I told the hubby that this is the best day of my life besides our wedding lol.
  18. Got my first acceptance call today!! This has to be one of the best feelings ever. Taking a load off and celebrating with a few drinks. Good luck to you all!
  19. East Carolina U is having interviews next week. To those that applied there and haven't gotten an invite - I don't know if they are doing more than one round so don't give up yet. That is the only school I have heard back from out of 9. The waiting is KILLING me! I saw one of the schools I applied to on the results board (Montclair) sent out an acceptance letter even though their deadline hasn't even passed yet. What gives?
