As per the above poster, since Boston College's social interview date is the 14th, I would say that your chances (and mine) are dim if we haven't heard by now.

Can anyone clarify the admissions process a bit for me? If someone is "recommended" for admission by the dept/area committee, does that ensure admission? Or is there still a chance you won't get in. Who are they recommending you to anyway - the dean of the graduate school? Just curious...

Since I have nothing better to do while I wait for ad-comm decisions, here goes another dumb question: if you're at one of the less formal interview weekend events, such as a departmental party or casual grad student gathering, would it be a bad idea to get into a discussion of politics if the conversation happens to be steered that way? I know people in academia are typically liberal (as am I), but is it bad taste to show your political bent during interview weekend?

As I'm sitting here checking my email fifty times an hour, I've been going through the results pages and noticed a good amount of wait list posts. This might be a dumb question, but is an applicant typically offered wait list status AFTER an interview (because their performance @ the interview was subpar relative to other interviewees)? Or is the purpose of the wait list for people ad-comms want to interview, only if they can't fill all the open slots from the first round of interviewees? Or some other purpose entirely? Just wondering...

Any suggestions on what is appropriate for a psychology phd interview? I am getting conflicting responses from people around me. Some say business casual and some say to definitely wear a suit. Some say that it depends on the type of school (private vs. public). Is this true? Any ideas?

I applied, but haven't heard anything yet. The results page as of 1/21 indicates that at least one gradcafe user has been notified of an interview for duke's psychology & neuro program (but does not specify if the concentration is developmental). Would appreciate a reply from anyone who has heard from Duke!
