I don't suggest calling the admissions office. If the AdComms [at Duke or USC] want to invite you to the interview weekend, then they will contact you either by e-mail or by phone.

Hi Tejaswi, to answer your question about how I checked my application status for Duke and USC: I was only able to check the status on the online application through ApplyYourself. But I did not really check all that often. I received a phone call from Duke in December inviting me to the interview weekend. As for USC, I simply received an e-mail inviting me to the interview weekend.

I was called for an interview at Duke on December 21st, 2010 for their Genetics and Genomics PhD program fall 2011. By December 24th, they had already bought me a ticket for a flight to Durham, NC. The interview is on the weekend of Feb 17-19. I still get those annoying e-mails you're talking about though! Best of luck to ya
