  1. So, I got accepted into the University of Arizona's Public Health Program which is well ranked. I applied to a dual degree program as a back up to my psyc PhD programs. I have received one offer to the University of Toledo for Exp./Social Psychology which is ...a school somewhere in the middle, not particularly good and not bad. I will essentially be working with the same populations: Latino immigrants and health outcomes. I am unsure as to the funding for the MA/MPH program in public health but am fully funded at toledo (plus teaching and research assistantships). What would you do?
  2. Thanks for your input. I am a little worried about my GRE scores, it really is an issue. I got a couple interviews so far which is exciting. As far as my interests being all over the place, I am really focused on cultural psychology/prejudice/stereotyping/belief systems which is currently being studied in all 3 of the areas I applied to...public health to a lesser degree.
  3. This is all helpful. There is nobody else who has claimed an interview thus far (Univ. of Toledo) I know that 3 people are interviewing with me on Monday but there is another date set for Feb 4. I imagine that they would split it at least fairly even between the two days so I imagine that there are likely 8-10 of us. The department is pretty large so they may have enough spots for us all. Also, whenever they send me e-mails they cc the two profs I mentioned in my personal statement plus another prof. whose interest are no where near what I suggested in my PS...his work is interesting but I don't know what that means. Any advice for do's and dont's?
  4. So I got an e-mail asking me for an interview yesterday evening. It said "congratulations on making our short list! we are excited to hear from you." In a psychology PhD program how many people are generally on "the short list?" and what are your chances of getting in should you get an interview (obviously significantly better than if you do not get one, but this is my first go around with all of this)
  5. Psyc: Tulane, Penn State, Virginia Commonwealth, Clark, Toledo, Univ. Cali. at Santa Cruz, Univ. Cali. at Davis, University of Utah, Saint Louis Univ. Neuro: OSU MA/MPH: San Diego State
  6. So here is the deal, I am a terrible test taker. My GRE scores were not impressive. I earned a 1050. My GPA is a 3.5. I have a ton of research experience and have presented at 3 large conferences. I have great letters of recommendation and I believe my personal statement etc. to be very strong, and I speak another language. I am wondering what my outlook is for PhD programs in Social and Experimental Psychology, Neuroscience. I also applied to a dual degree MA/MPH program (Latin american studies and Public Health). My undergraduate degrees are B.S. Experimental Psych., Minors in Latin American Studies and Spanish, Certificate in Leadership Studies.
