Everything posted by going crazy

  1. Faculty, I agree with you. I think that's probably where we are. If so, I'm not complaining, just hoping it works out. Hopeful1, I debate e-mailing just about everyday, but I haven't seen ANY positive outcomes from that other than learning you're rejected faster. I'm too scared that they'd be annoyed by my e-mail and say "You know what, we were thinking about you, but now you're rejected." I'll just cross my fingers and hope for the best.
  2. I have the same question. But if they sent out a wave of rejections the other day I can't imagine why they wouldn't just send ours out as well unless they were still making admits. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, but I'd like to think they're not just dragging their asses and sitting on a bunch of rejections. But then, that may be the case.
  3. Looking at your numbers and the places you've already been accepted, it obviously had to be an issue of fit. I agree with Sara. You've got incredible options. I'd guess UNC, right?
  4. Wait-listed at Princeton. Holy Crap! I wanted to post this in the acceptances cuz it made me that excited! Here's what the e-mail said: Careful review by the Department of Sociology and the Graduate School of the materials you submitted indicates your ability to succeed in the graduate program. Nonetheless, we are not prepared to make a final decision on your application and have placed your name on a waiting list. We will make every effort to provide you with a more definitive response within the next few weeks on the assumption that you must decide about your graduate study very soon. I know it's in all likelihood going to be a rejection cuz those who got into Princeton will most likely take that offer over other schools. Nevertheless, it felt great that they did not laugh at my application outright.
  5. Really sorry to ask you about this bubawizwam, but just to clarify, did Evelyn say "acceptances and rejections" are going out within the next week? I saw a wave of rejections posted yesterday, but I haven't seen mine yet. The reason I ask for clarification is just that I don't know whether to hold out hope that UT is still holding onto a handful of acceptances or should I just resign myself to the fact that a rejection inevitably awaits. Thanks.
  6. Sorry about that raque. I'm awaiting my fate from UT any day now. Doesn't look like you're too bothered though. Besides, UNC abd Penn St. are incredible programs! So jealous.
  7. From today's results page it appears that UT Austin has sent out another wave of rejections. Hope no one on here got one of those. I'm still waiting to hear something from them. Wish they would just get it over with but I suppose if we haven't heard anything yet that might mean we made it past some sort of cut. Maybe that's just wishful (or delusional) thinking.
  8. No official rejections yet. Didn't get the invite from ND (though I'm only aware of the one for direshark) and no invite from Duke either. Just assuming both of those are rejections.
  9. Totally! I absolutely hate those freaking e-mails!
  10. I've also applied to Rice (Race/Ethnicity, Urban Soc., and Soc. of Religion). After talking to one of the faculty there are some serious positives: a very generous stipend, no TA-ships only RAs, and the faculty are super-motivated to make this a top program so they're going to make sure students publish their brains out before they graduate. On the downside, the program is new and unproven and the department (along with Baylor, Notre Dame, Purdue, and for some UT Austin) are in danger of getting a reputation for being a Soc of Religion school which may stigmatize job candidates in the future. I'm mulling this one over as well should I be admitted.
  11. I've got two solo-authored publications in the Journal of Comparative Family Studies (not a top tier journal by any stretch, but peer-reviewed nonetheless) and two solos currently under review. One in Qualitative Sociology and one in Review of Religious Research. Outside of that, several presentations at conferences. Who knows whether any of that will help out?
