  1. This link should help answer your question (although it's not for poli-sci in particular): http://chronicle.com/stats/aaup/
  2. I'm passing on UVA. I'm going to send the form in on Monday.
  3. I got into MIT, yet my experience this year strongly suggests that measures such as GRE/GPA/publications are completely insufficient to predict admissions outcomes. Despite having strong quantitative measures across the board, attending a strong undergrad institution, and sending every school essentially the same recommendations, personal statements, and writing samples, I was rejected at 6 schools and admitted only to MIT (my top choice) and UVA (my 'safety,' if you want to call it that
  4. Just to add to the MIT info database: I got my official letter today ( I live in Connecticut). Full funding ($20,500) for five years, fellowship for the first two years, RA/TA after that. Needless to say, I'm ecstatic.
  5. Congratulations! It looks like there are a bunch of us that might end up there...
  6. To Intapp and others: Thanks for the congratulations. Once I get the official mailing from MIT with the funding info in writing (I heard the rough figures from a professor over the phone, but I'm the kind of person who needs to see it before I believe it), I will notify UVA that I will not be attending. Hopefully this opens up a spot for one of you guys. UVA really looks like a great school, and I was fully prepared to go there before I heard from MIT.
  7. I'm in at MIT!! Phone call around 5:45 from a professor; field: Security/IR. This is totally brilliant since MIT was my first choice by far. I am now officially living proof that one can get rejected from almost everywhere EXCEPT their top choice!!
  8. Hmm. I got a phone call from MIT around 1 but was in class. I got a message saying to call back but no one answered!!! It sounds like good news but the suspense is killing me!!!!
  9. For those such as myself who need a reason to feel better about getting rejected from a bunch of schools, I submit the following anonymous posts by PoliSci Job Rumors users who just returned from the ISA conference: "ISA was light on rumors and gossip. Main issue being that there will be few grad school spots this year." "Second the above post; I heard rumors that schools were contemplating not bringing in any grad students this year so they could have normal-sized classes next year." It still sucks to be rejected, but let's keep things in perspective. This may actually be the worst year for grad school admissions EVER. Of course, this just makes it all the more impressive an accomplishment for those who got into top schools. To all those people (and there seems to be a lot of them on this board), congratulations are definitely order. For the rest of us, let's keep the hope alive. And even if we don't get into our top choices, we should be thankful for the schools that have given us a spot.
  10. I'm straight from undergrad too.
  11. My thesis examines the use of coercive diplomacy in U.S. nonproliferation policy in the past several decades. It's interesting stuff, and I definitely enjoy it. It's hard to find time though with all my other classes and commitments. Spring break will be my salvation.
  12. Based on the results page, the Duke acceptances are definitely rolling in. Congrats to everyone who got one.
  13. Exactly what I was thinking.
  14. I'm not seeing anything either. However, another person just posted an acceptance on the results page. It said they were accepted 2 days ago though, which is really strange.
  15. Speak of the devil. There's now a Duke acceptance on the results page. Looks like we're in for a wild ride today.
