  1. I've got a good friend who is just beginning the process I just finished... applying to MSW programs. Does anyone know how selective these schools are (in terms of getting into)? Please rank on a scale of 1-5 with five being the most selective: U of Chicago Berkeley WashU Michigan Columbia UCLA UNC
  2. Hmmm... dual-degree or MSW from UCLA? I would definitely go for the dual-degree. Not only is Columbia's MSW program top-notch, but the Mailman School of Public Health is as good as it gets. If I had one regret, it was not applying to a concurrent MPH program.
  3. Try to visit the area before getting your place. Hyde Park is knid of ghetto, and the neighborhoods can vary street to street.
  4. I've applied to a few other MSW programs and have gotten a little bit of funding. Did they provide details on your aid / loan package?
  5. remily, are you looking into becoming a clinician? Columbia is clinic-centric so to speak. My wife is at Rollins and likes it, but I know there are plenty of other solid MPH programs out there.
  6. I know, there are only a few of us around these types of boards. I've heard from Michigan and Chicago (I had applied for early decision). Schools can be funny about funding. I've heard back from both programs, but I know other schools take a longer time to allocate grants / scholarships. I would bet that most schools will get back to you within the next four weeks. If not, it never hurts to call for an update.
