This is worth reading... Talks about the MFA from a writers perspective, but it's basically the same game.
I talked with SAIC today, and apparently there has been no decision on my application. I know people have been rejected already and asked to interview. They said I should know by next week. Anyone have this happen before?
Apply to the Contemporary Artists Center at Woodside, in Troy, NY. VSC is awesome has a really strong community, competitive but not horrible. Most people you meet at residencies have done an MFA. I don't have one, and I've managed to get into a handful, but I am usually one of the few without.
I talked with people at SAIC to straighten out a few things. They said the earliest people should hear is late next week, and the latest is end of March. Totally depends on the department.
I had a bunch of friends get interviewed last year. One got in, and their practice is very grounded in critical theory.
I heard they throw some ridiculous questions at you. Like what is the pinnacle historical painting.
I find the schools reputation to be a bit inflated at this point. I can't tell you how many Yale MFA art handlers I work with.
Good luck, and I hope it's the right fit.
Just my 2 cents.
