  1. I'm in the same situation! I'm considering professors I would want to work with, expertise in specifc content I want to study, and expertise in skills. This is challenging! Both schools have professors I'd want to work with. School A is better at the skills I want to gain. School B has a specialty program in the content area I want to study. School A would be better for breadth. I don't want to be typecast. At the same time I have a specific area I want to focus my research in.

School A is ranked 4. School B is ranked 11. To the extent that others put importance in ranking I am considering this. I visited School B earlier and was shocked by how warm everyone was (maybe it's a mid-west thing?) I'm visiting School A before I make my decision. Ultimately location may be a bigger deciding factor.

    Good luck deciding!

    LJK,

Thank you, these questions are all so helpful! I might not even have the answers to them right now, but your post has given me a lot to think about!

It sounds like you're in a similar situation - Best of luck with your decision!

  2. I heard back from Pitt (BCHS MPH) and Michigan (HBHE MPH) the week after my apps were recieved. All the literature said to expect a decision 4-6 weeks later though .

I visited Pitt last summer and fell in love! It's certainly a small city/big town if you're coming from an urban area.

This website might be helpful: http://www.city-data.com/forum/

I haven't visited. I have lots of family in the area, so I have grown up hearing about Pitt.

  3. If you've used accomadations at work or in school within I believe the last 2 years (but double check with ETS), then (depending on the accomadations you are requesting) you may be able to submit the COE with appropriate signatures indicating you recieved accomadations. Time and half is a fairly standard accomadation but if you are requesting a private room or extra breaks you may need to submit original doumentation. You may be able to submit documentation from your diagnosis in college depending on how recent it is. ETS isn't very clear on their process or requirements. Best of luck!

Does anyone know how much documentation the ETS wants? For 50% extended testing time, you just need a certificate of eligibility. But does the certificate of eligibility require the material shown in the link here (http://www.ets.org/d...ocumenting_adhd)? http://www.addforums...ead.php?t=38965 shows that it's scary. Supposedly ADHD isn't enough, but you're also required to prove that you meet ADA criteria, which are more stringent. Also, it says that you need to go through cognitive testing to show that you meet the criteria (this testing is VERY expensive and there is no way that I can go through it). I was only diagnosed with ADD in college (in the past, being a teacher's pet + high intelligence really masked it).

However, a nytimes article (http://www.nytimes.c...egy-t.html?_r=1) says this:

Will this change the documentation needed for the 2011 tests? Is anyone else familiar with the process of getting accommodations?

    Thanks!

  4. Shmuey--

You may still be able to apply to Pitt for the Fall. They changed some of their deadlines. Take a look

Hey there! Just discovered this forum, and really wish it had been sooner. I just sent off my application to Tennessee's MS/MPH Public Health Nutrition last night. I'm also applying to both Maryland school's, and started looking at the Texas-Houston MPH program. Unfortunately my submissions to SOPHAS were majorly delayed and I wasn't able to apply to Pitt's MS/MPH program, which I am still extremely interested in....might apply for Spring 2012 as it seems the program accepts for both terms. Anybody else experience major delays w/ SOPHAS? Anyway, good luck to all!
