Oh I can't face it! My stomach literally turns when I read it again. On one essay, I did find an extra 's' where it shouldn't have been. :roll: When editing other people's documents at work, I can't tell you how many times I found a letter missing in 'public.' I checked very carefully to not make this mistake on my apps!

Yay for a public health board! I know a number of schools offer partially or completely online options for MPH. What do you guys think of them? Has anyone completed this type of degree? I was accepted to Emory's hybrid program, which entails multiple trips down to Atlanta per year for on-campus sessions. I know that Hopkins also offers an online option, though I think you need to go to Baltimore or Washington at least once or twice. Pros: Online programs allow you to work at the same time, which is sounding really appealing since there does not seem to be a lot of funding for Masters. Emory's curriculum in particular seems like it would be instantly applicable in a professional setting (courses in grant writing, survey design, etc.), and maybe the networking with other students would be more interesting if they are already working in public health organizations. Cons: I do like opportunities to interact in a classroom setting, and I would love more practice speaking in front of groups. Also, I am concerned about potentially missing out on relationships with professors and other students. Your thoughts?

Not to be paranoid, but are you sure this is a good idea? Someone could easily lift what you have written. Perhaps it's better to talk to friends, family, colleagues, etc. that you know in real life!

I can't imagine what kind of industry you work in that people would potentially do such a thing? And that whatever their allegations were, that the school would believe the nutjobs who call in? I can, however, see potential problems with giving some employers too much advance notice that you are leaving. Again, depending on the industry, specific company, and its culture, maybe you would be treated poorly for the rest of your term there. Once you tell your boss you are leaving, he or she also could just say, "Ok, don't bother coming in anymore," and then you are out a paycheck until September. Those sorts of things would be my only concerns -- not fellow employee sabotage. But I've always worked in health care so maybe I have a more positive outlook on things... PS The puppybowl is awesome.

Is the mom friends with the professor or something? This seems really odd.

I only applied to three (so far), but I'm not a huge fan of one of them. If I only got into that one, I might contact the other schools and ask how my application could be improved and go for the next round. Of course, I'm applying for MPHs and the acceptance rates are around 50% -- pretty good odds compared to what most people here are dealing with!

I will admit that I know nothing about the studio arts, but I understand your dilemma. Personally I think name recognition is great, and it can give you a bit of a foot in the door, but in the end your education and your accomplishments are in your hands, no matter what school you go to. So if you received a great funding offer from a school that meets your own criteria, you can really put in the extra elbow grease to have an outstanding experience. You could be the very top student in your class, lead some student organization, become close with the best professors, score an amazing internship, or whatever would differentiate yourself and your resume in the studio arts community. "If i do not attend the top tier school, i probably will close myself off to an entire avenue of career possibility." Really? I would carefully assess this assumption before taking on thousands and thousands of dollars of debt, unless you have some wealthy relatives who will pick up the tab.

I am living outside of the US and I simply notified my schools that there is a significant mailing delay at my address and I would appreciate receiving any urgent communications via email or fax. They seemed fine with that. However, I am still waiting for replies from all my schools. So I can't say if this approach was effective or not!
