  1. I've been accepted in a developmental PhD program but have no desire to go into academia and be a prof afterwards. I know going into research is the other major option. I'm curious what others are planning to do after they graduate with their PhD in a non-clinical psychology program.

What is the grad community like at the University of Minnesota? I'm kind of disappointed that there's no grad housing since at the University where I did my undergrad it seemed like grad housing was a great way to meet grad students from other faculties and they organized a lot of social events. Are there inter-departmental activities organized for grad students? I'd hate to only get to know people in my faculty.
  3. Me. In Psychology. I'm visiting the program soon. very excited. Only things I'm not too thrilled about are the snow and the lack of grad housing.
  4. What happens to couples who get together during grad school but aren't from the same hometowns? Do they end up staying in the city where they went to grad school or do they move back to one person's hometown? Assuming that I meet someone in grad school, I'm really struggling with the idea that I might be raising my kids away from my parents and my family. Do couples ever decide that neither of them is prepared to permanently stay in a new city and they end up splitting up to move back to their respective hometowns? By the time I finish my PhD I'll be 29, and I'd really like to have more areas of my life than just my career figured out by then.
