  1. Usually a lower ranked program would be more willing to increase their support to accommodate for the competition, because they are trying to get the strongest applicants they can so they could boost the program too. Some of them actually would ask you straight up whether you have other offers and how much money they are offering you, so they can make themselves more competitive that way... I don't think higher ranked universities would be willing to do that. Unless they really want you, and you mention to them that you have an offer from a competing (i.e. viewed by them as a competitor) program. How you would bring it up? Maybe you'll get a chance on the accepted students weekend (if you're in the US or going anyway). I wouldn't do that over email, unless specifically asked.
  2. So, it was not an interview I sort of got to interview them (which was cooler than I expected!)! I think we'll be hearing from them soon, they pretty much have a list of admits already, as far as I understood. And be certain they wouldn't make an international call just for you (or anyone else) to interview them (well, at least I wouldn't think so)! So don't worry, and good luck! Quick secret: I am international too, it's just that I went to college in the US, so I am here and have an American phone number . Also, what are you guys' interests? What did you apply for?
  3. No interview reported, ever. But that just means people chose not to report them though. Also, they seem to have admissions starting from mid-February to mid-March, so I wouldn't worry about not being called yet. Also, I think they might just interview part of the applicants? Good luck with the admission process!
  4. Yes and no. They never called it an interview, but a discussion about my interests and how their program would fit them. It was actually pretty enjoyable and informative, although I was so nervous that at times I was somewhat incoherent... And then I have been invited to another discussion at the beginning of this week...
  5. Computer Graphics. But I did hear from them... about the interview (or talk over the phone) it's just that I feel weird about seeming to be the only one to have ever had an interview (however informal it might have been) with them... or at least to have posted about this here...I wonder if this is a bad thing in this case?
  6. Oh, now I see what the question was. I do not know, maybe they decided they needed more info? Or maybe they usually do it but no one has reported it until now?
  7. Virginia Tech (Graduate Preview Weekend, no admission decision yet, though they did say it's coming): February 17-20 Washington University in St. Louis: March 4th
  8. There are better things to do than take the CS GRE... I was actually pretty worried that I didn't take it, but I did have 3 years' research experience, and that seems to have helped a lot. I actually took the Math subject test, having been told that that would impress admissions, but ended up scoring so badly that I didn't submit my results almost anywhere (haven't heard back from the school where I did yet). So, if there is any way you can get research experience (even if that means investigating a topic in your area of interest by yourself, and creating a website describing your progress or something like that), I'd say go for that. The CS test is only required at some schools, and mostly of students who haven't already gotten a degree in CS.
  9. I'd be interested in this too. I have applied to a bunch of schools, but got accepted into Clemson and University of Virginia, and (maybe) Virginia Tech (I'm going to the graduate preview weekend, no actual news on admission yet) and Washington University in St. Louis (second rounds of interviews this week, if that means anything). I am interested in computer graphics and, although there are other factors to consider, was wondering how the schools would rank in terms of their computer graphics research... I haven't received any money offers yet apart from Clemson, but UVa told me to expect my aid package in the mail soon (not in an email...). I know the general ranking of PhD programs in CS, but I was wondering if the Graphics specialization should make any difference?
