  1. Memphis is pretty awesome, so that's some consolation. Plus, I'm funded (been funded through the MA too, which was great), have good professors, and my fiance has a really good job here. So it's not so bad...I just kind of feel like I got picked last for the team or something! Oh, and @rmcclymo: Call Emory. The graduate secretary will tell you your status.
  2. Applied to 5, got rejected from them all! Staying at my current program if I pass my comps. SOOOOO depressed.
  3. My MA program (not even the PhD!) offers funded GAships in the first year. You grade for an auditorium class for the two years of your MA, with a stipend of around 9,000 total (lucky thing Memphis has a low cost of living!!!). Then, if you stay for your PhD, you can start teaching then. I don't find it to be very hard, or unmanageable at all.
  4. I emailed my POI. he said they wouldn't do formal rejections for awhile, but they already sent out acceptances, and don't expect to take anyone off the waitlist.
  5. I got rejected from IU yesterday, and from Rutgers (unofficially, I'm on the waitlist) and Emory (officially via phone) today. Guess I'm staying in Memphis...sucks, since I had really good scores, GPA, interesting topic, lots of interest from potential advisors, etc. Oh well, as long as they keep funding me, and my professor sticks around, it's not a bad deal!
  6. My status on the Rutgers system still says "No Decision" as well. With only two replies, and both of them rejections, I'm just waiting for the inevitable Rutgers rejection as well. At least I can stay at my current school (assuming I pass my MA comps...), although it would be nice to get into a better school and have a job someday. Oh well.
  7. I probably did not get accepted then. I'm early modern too (although not Jewish subfield, so I'll hold out hope for a couple of days).
  8. Same question here. I checked the website, and it still says "no decision." This is not helping me grade tests for my US II undergrad class. At all.
  9. I heard through a relatively reliable source that Indiana had 350 applicants for 10 PhD slots (in the entire department, not just in one field). I can imagine it's taking awhile to sort through all of them...but I'm still going to be preemptively depressed.
  10. I've gotten one rejection, but that was a week ago. I'm kind of in the "I don't care anymore, I just want to know" mindset right now.
  11. I don't know how easy it is to get in/how well it matches up with your interests, since it's a small program, but I go to University of Memphis and we have a great Egyptology/Classics program. It's by far our strongest area of study, and I know they let people in in the Spring. Whether or not the Egyptology professors do or not, I don't know, but it's worth looking into.
  12. I thought the whole point of this website was to obsess...
  13. At least the only people getting acceptances on the board so far are for Americanists. Which gives this sad little Europeanist hope that mine is coming soon.
  14. Yeah, I'm still waiting on Emory too.
  15. Someone earlier today posted an American History acceptance. Which is still not European History, but closer!
