  1. I am an international too and had to explain to the people at Georgia that I was still waiting on Assistantship offer. They are usually helpful because they want intl. students to come.

Thanks. I have decided not to provide the financial documentation. If there is no offer before Apr 15th, I will give up on this one. :)

  2. Bump bump ba dump.

Still nothing. The two people I talked to at the department were very brusque. I was told decisions would be made after the final deadline of April 15 which is silly I think.

That is really silly... I decide to forget about this one. :|

  3. Need some help here, again...

The director of GVPT Maryland has told me I was waitlisted for funding. "An assistantship may become available in the next few weeks, but I can make no promises. "The IES just sent me another email asking for financial certification again. (I'm an international student). They say that I would not be admitted if I cannot provide these documentations.

I am still waiting for the NYU master( probably unfunded, rejected me for PhD). And I've been offered admission with funding by SUNY Albany. So I've decided not to go to Maryland if I'm unfunded. But if Maryland can provide me assistantship eventually, I will choose to go there.

So there are several things I need some advice:

    1. If I do not provide this documentation, will I directly be rejected? Or they will wait to see if there will be assistantship available for me?

    2. If I do provide this documentation, will it affect my chances of getting assitantship?

    3. Anyone knows about the decision deadline of NYU master program? Is it before Apr 15th?

    Thanks a lot :)

  4. Need some help here....

I'm an international applicant. This year I've been rejected from plenty of top PhD programs. Til now I only get one offer from SUNY Albany, a potential AD(not sure yet,no mail received, only an email from director, no word of funding) from Maryland, and a master AD from NYU. I decided not to consider unfunded master (already have MA in Econ).

I know Albany is not strong in its political science, but very strong in its public affairs. The ranking of maryland is much higher, but still not among top programs. My question is, is it worthy to go to an unfunded program of Maryland instead of go to funded program in Albany? Since I'm international, I have little information about these two schools. Profs in Albany say they have a lot of intern programs with the state government, and I can take IR or public policy as my second field(first is comparative politics). However I am still not sure about their job placement in the future. For Maryland, I know their international reputation is much higher than Albany, but know little about the quality of their program.

So if anyone knows something about these two, please give me some suggestions! Thank you~ :)

  5. Sent an email to Maryland yesterday, and get an answer from Prof. Morris:

"It is my understanding that you have been admitted to the program, but I will need to confirm that with our program coordinator. As we are on spring break, she will not be back in the office until later this week. I will check with her as soon as she returns to the office. I apologize for the delay."

I am patient... :) LeftCoast, kenzhu, publicpolicy79, thanks for your help!

  6. I'd suggest sending an email to Irwin Morris. He should be able to tell you what the situation is.

Thank you guys. I just sent an email to ask and hope to get some answers. But I really doubt that they would give me a clear one. It seems that they would "not give decision upon request by email or phone".

  7. I am currently in a MA program of Econ. After completing my MA thesis I plan to go travel overseas somewhere. And since I've been away from home so long, I will go back and stay for a while, spend some time together with my family. This is my fun part.

For preparation of PhD study, I would like to learn another language and do some readings in political science to catch up with others.

However, as an international student I have other things to worry about, like visa, immunity certificates, driver's license, housing... I really doubt if I have time for all these plans.

  8. Northwestern finally rejected me yesterday.

For Maryland it's really weird. The ASF online said "A decision has been made regarding your application" and asked me to go to Testudo. But it's still pending decision on that one. Maybe I can only find about the decision in "a decision letter within two to three weeks". My guess is, for best it's a de facto waitlist, for worst it's a rejection which they forgot to or will later post on Testudo.

  9. Got my rejection from Northwestern, finally. I'm anticipating a rejection from Chicago any day now, and then I'll be set to make my decision. Maybe I'll even do it before spring break.

Did you get your decision from the online application system or email? I am still waiting, both northwestern and Maryland...

  10. Hondo:

How did you find out that you had been accepted? The website they have seems to be weeks behind at all times. I know a decision on my application was slowed by transcripts getting misplaced along the way. I found oiut today I was not accepted to Maryland so UMAss is my last hope. Perhaps we will meet in person in Amherst!

    First congrats to Hondo!

They haven't decided on my application yet. I emailed to ask and they said hopefully more decisions will be made in the next few weeks. So we need to be patient...

  11. I applied to the PhD program and was rejected...

Anyone get accepted to the PhD program? I am only curious about the number of admissions...I didn't see any from the posts.

The professor I contacted said that he doens't know about decision making. But he admit that this year is particularly tight even for Princeton...

  12. Emailed GW to ask about status, here is their reply:

"I realize you may be feeling a bit anxious, but the Admissions Committee is still finalizing their decisions.

The committee anticipates that you will know, by mail, the decision within the next two weeks."

I guess my chances are very low...

  13. I officially give up. Remember I told you guys about that email but nothing yet. I also emailed a proff I spoke with before but nothing from him either.

I am not sure what is taking them so long.............

It's really strange for Northwestern to take so long......Nearly 3 weeks ago I was hoping that Northwestern will be the first school I would hear from, because they said they would give out decisions that week.

  14. Same thing for me and NYU and am not sure what I should do? I mean there are difinate advantages for NYU but do you guys think a fully funded Howard PhD would be better?

Just got the same email from NYU asking me to apply for the master's program. Does everyone rejected received the same email? Or just those received rejections today... I'm not sure about master's program since I am already in one in econ :|

  15. I called UPenn today and the graduate administrator told me they sent out all the admissions and waitlists. So if you haven't heard anything - assume the worst :(

I am stating this just to verify an earlier post on the same topic.

That's too bad. Guess I am out. :(

One of their profs told me they would only admit 9 this year. Guess the competition is really tough.
