  1. Sorry to hear that. I say go for it again in November! Are you in Vancouver (or Burnaby)? You mentioned you are a student at SFU. I'm in Vancouver (also SFU) but haven't received the letter yet... And grad studies has an "embargo" on results, so no email either.
  2. From SSHRC's twitter account: "Institutions are informed of the latest SSHRC results at the same time, but we don't control how info is disseminated internally." In other words, if one institution knows (and we know that's the case), then all institutions should know by now.
  3. I haven't heard anything from grad studies or my department at SFU. Then again, I didn't ask them; I'm just waiting for the letter.
  4. Thank you for finally clarifying that! Looking at my two previous posts, that's the kind of critical thinking for which SSHRC should give me a Fellowship! That, however, won't happen, so I'll wait for my bad but predictable news sometime next week, probably around Friday, since I'm in Vancouver.
  5. Again, it probably wasn't there before because today is the first day to apply. I think they made this option available today. Are there any Canadian citizens or permanent residents here who can't see the option to create an MSFSS form by logging in using this link?: https://webapps.nserc.ca/SSHRC/faces/logonFellowships.jsp?lang=en_CA Also, having a Doctoral Fellowship does not make you eligible for the MSFSS. You need a CGS or a Vanier. I can assure you I didn't get a Vanier, and I don't think I was even eligible for a CGS when I applied for a Doctoral Fellowship. So, I'm only eligible for a Fellowship, which means I'm NOT eligible for an MSFSS, and yet I see the option to create an MSFSS form.
  6. Calm down everyone. This is getting ridiculous. Why would the option to create a Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements form mean anything? I see that too, and it says "Start Date, Friday, April 26, 2013" which probably means today is the first day to apply for the next MSFSS competition. Have you even looked at the eligibility criteria? Here's the description: "Canada Graduate Scholarships—Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements (CGS-MSFSS) are available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who hold a Joseph-Armand Bombardier, Alexander Graham Bell or Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) at the master’s or doctoral level, or a Vanier CGS at the doctoral level."
  7. Well, I have a strange type of anxiety. Based on my background and qualifications, I consider myself defeated, but still a bit anxious to get the official rejection letter!
  8. "On track for end of April" means that if all goes as planned, that's when the letters will start being mailed. In other words, you should watch your mailbox around that time, once results are released (hopefully sometime next week). On the other hand, maybe they meant that we should receive the letters by then (as opposed to them mailing the letters at the end of the month), so really, "on track for end of April" is a rather ambiguous statement that would require clarification. Furthermore... Oh whatever, we'll just have to wait.
  9. Thanks for the encouraging comment. Still, last year's statistics show that my university (Simon Fraser) forwarded 55 out of 63 applications, so not much of a filter there... I tried to highlight my project's originality, relevance, and contributions to knowledge, and I have an experienced supervisor, but I'm afraid that won't suffice. Oh well, nothing to do now but wait. I could definitely use the money for fieldwork!
  10. SSHRC letters have not been sent yet. SSHRC's twitter account says that the letters will be mailed in late April. Based on the comments I read here, I'm now pretty sure that I have no chance. Poor undergrad GPA (now in PhD program), no research assistantships, one peer-reviewed publication, one article submitted to publication, one national conference, two international conferences (in one of them I received an Honourable Mention for a paper I submitted to the conference's Graduate Paper Award), not a whole lot in terms of scholarships, save for a Graduate Fellowship and a Special Graduate Entrance Scholarship, plus a few minor awards such as travel grants. Sigh... Sigh indeed.
  11. I'm worried about my undergrad GPA. I'm now in the second year of a PhD and don't know how much emphasis they place on the undergrad transcript, but my GPA is really low... It's like a permanent stain on my file. My MA GPA is ok, and my current PhD GPA is better than the MA. I can only hope they put more weight on the grad transcripts, but who knows... I don't have an awesome professional background to make up for it either, so we'll see.
  12. Just tell me that I will not get any funding already!!! AArrrrgghhhh!!! I'm in Vancouver, so I guess I'll hear from SSHRC in a few months....
  13. Vanier results are out. Why do SSHRC results have to be the last ones to be announced??
