  1. xerzewatt, 1. If the ISS office doesn't respond to your email, then just call them. That's a lot more efficient. 2. You can definitely live decently on your stipend.

Can anyone give some reviews on apartment communities? Such as Parkway Plaza, Lion's Gate, Nittany Gardens, Allenway..... I've been checking out housing and I'm getting a little overwhelmed.... They've all got pretty websites and everything looks nice, but I think some comments from people who've really lived there would be more helpful.
  3. Hi all! I'll be joining the Statistics program this fall. I've also been checking out housing on the web, I've mainly seen two types: apartment communities, or else rooms in individual town houses. Can anyone compare these two types of housing?
  4. Got an offer yesterday, but was a little confused by a few sentences. Here's some extractions: " On behalf of the Graduate Admissions Committee it is my pleasure to offer you admission to the graduate program in xxxxx beginning in the Fall 2009 semester. You have also been approved to receive a teaching assistantship which includes a monthly stipend and tuition waiver. (blablabla about the TA........) You will also receive a hard copy of your offer via regular mail. Please let us know as soon as possible if you wish to accept this teaching assistantship. This offer is valid until April 15, 2009. " My question is: is this an offer of admission together with funding which I have till April 15 to decide? OR is only the admission part valid till April 15, while I need to respond to the TAship a.s.a.p. on the risk of losing the support if I don't? Can anyone help me on this? Thanks a lot!
  5. just an update... they didn't drop the tough question after all, whew and this actually makes me feel better about the school.
  6. I'm applying for stat and biostat programs. I've already recieved 2 admissions, but neither mentioned anything about financial aid, although I did remember indicating in the applications that I don't have my own funding sources. Do financial aids usually come on a seperate notice later some time, or does this mean that I probably wouldn't have any? P.S. I'm an international student. One school did mention that I need to send them financial certificates for the visa documents...
  7. Thanks to all above~ I know I have the right not to make a decision now, but my answer can still affect their decision... (just like that scary rumor... ) Like, if I say "you are one of my top choices", and then they ask what other schools are your top, should I list schools that tie with them or should I really list my top schools (which are kind of obviously better but not so likely to be accepted)?
  8. I'll be having an interview with a school kind of in the middle of my list. I'm almost sure that I will be asked in the interview about my interests towards the school. What if they ask questions like: "If we give you an offer, would you accept it?" It would be almost impossible for me to answer this kind of question right now since it's still quite early and I haven't been hearing much from the other schools I applied. But I don't want to leave an impression that I'm not taking this school seriously. What should I say?? If I give a bad answer, would they draw back the potential offer?

I may be going to Penn State for graduate school (although I haven't decided yet). From what I know, State College seems to be a very pleasant and safe place to live in, but I was wondering if it may get a bit boring once in while in a small town like that. I hear someone say that it's only five minutes' drive before all you see is cows! Also, is a car neccessary to get around? Anyone from Penn State here give me some tips? Thanks~
