  1. Unfortunately, the government shutdown probably means that all the DoE people who work on Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays are currently furloughed. I wouldn't expect to hear anything else until this mess is resolved.
  2. Chinese language study in Taipei
  3. ??? Just when I thought I had everything figured it out (i.e. going to NYU), an eleventh hour surprise. I've just been admitted off the waitlist at UChicago with full funding. And they still want to know my response by tomorrow. I don't expect to get much sleep tonight.
  4. Northwestern PhD. That was a tough decision. Turning down MAs at Columbia and Chicago, not so difficult.
  5. I'm convinced that something is going on here that we're not completely aware of. It's too weird.
  6. My guess is that we didn't get into the PhD program, but our applications were referred to some MA program that hasn't sent out its decisions yet. The history department rejection seemed to be sent out as a mass e-mail a while ago.
  7. This is, to the letter, the response I received from UChicago.
  8. This sounds right. Although I've found out that UChicago's waitlist is not arranged that way--instead, they consider all sub-fields equally for admission of the waitlist. At least that's what they say.
  9. I was also told that they ended up making 20 offers this year, aiming for a cohort of only 11. That's a pretty severe cut, if that's true. :|
  10. My faculty contact there just told me that their accepted students event starts on Monday.
  11. Hmm, is this Columbia decision website the same as the ApplyYourself site, or is it a different link entirely?
  12. Howdy- I'm the Chinese history guy from the prospectives weekend. My potential advisor e-mailed me on Feb. 25th to let me know that the final decisions in the department had been made and that I had been accepted. However, I just received the official letter from the Graduate School the day before yesterday. So as far as I know, all the decisions are made (have you been in touch with Prof. Goswami after the weekend?), but the official notification seems to be lagging behind the department's decision-making process.
  13. Does anyone happen to know how many people are on the Chicago wait-list?
