  1. Hi! SUNY Purchase has an MFA/MA -- but the MA is specifically in Modern and Contemporary Art History, Theory, and Criticism... They have a reputable museum associated with their program (The Neuberger Museum). I'll be doing this program starting this coming year. It is a 3 year program with the focus of the first two years on the MFA, and the third year on the MA thesis and additional Art History electives.... Also, Pratt offers an MFA/ MSc in Art History option. Good luck with your search for the right program!
  2. Hi cobalt - interview was good though I felt a bit "grilled." I got some good critical feedback, though. I ended up getting accepted, but decided Pratt is just too large of a program for me... and could ultimately feel a bit impersonal. It is also really expensive. But I hope it is perfect for you and you go there if you want to!
  3. SUNY Purchase! I'm very happy with this decision now - even though it was a hard one - and I have had to wade through swamps of confusion and conflicting desires in order to make it. It seems to me after all these months of visits and research and reading all these posts, etc., that each program has so many things to like, and also its own share of things to be wary of... No place will be perfect -- but I hope we all end up getting exactly what we need - though maybe not always exactly what we want - wherever we end up going to school. May there be many blessings on everyone's path - bye bye!
  4. thanks for the thought bethany and jesus - I really appreciate hearing your opinions and experiences. i will visit rutgers next weds for the first time - interested to learn more.... though i must admit am leaning heavily toward purchase college... interested in any comparisons btwn those 2 programs if anyone else was considering both.
  5. You could always make the deposit at Pratt, if you are willing to lose that money.... You could also ask Columbia where you stand on the waitlist to get a better sense of if you have a good chance.....
  6. Yeehaw! just got accepted off the waitlist at Rutgers today - I'd sort of given up on getting in.... can you guys tell me what you love about the program please? thanks! (I've already accepted at Purchase - and that still might be the right choice- but I guess everything is negotiable for another week or two)
  7. Is anyone on the forum going to Pratt? If so, why have you decided on this program? I'd love to hear all thoughts about what makes this program a good choice.
  8. I also have an "I'm high on the waitlist" interview next week. (for new genres)
  9. Wondering if any others of you came to the visiting day and felt as excited about Penn as I did?
  10. Not yet -- I'm also wondering. I applied in New Genres.
  11. Yeah - 80K in debt.... Sounds like carrying a mighty albatross to me -- for 25 years or longer.... But at least we're all in roughly the same boat with the awards.... It seems like Penn does not have the resources to give much scholarship to anyone. Has anyone received a really generous offer from Penn??
  12. Is Pratt interviewing everyone they might admit? I didn't think Pratt did interviews....
  13. Anyone else get an acceptance call from Mount Royal other than that 1 person who posted last week?
  14. Hi MICA applicants - has anyone heard from Mount Royal yet? I read one post of someone who received an acceptance call last Friday... Did others also receive that call?
  15. Hi guys! so, as I'm contemplating heavy debt for Penn, I'm wondering -- What is an "insiders'" perception of this program? I know Penn is not a "top" program like Columbia or Yale -- but how is a Penn MFA in Fine Arts perceived by folks you all know who are current with art programs? Thanks for your thoughts...
  16. I haven't heard from SUNY Purchase yet either since the interview... Here's hoping for us both!
  17. Funding news anyone? Do you mind to message me, too, please.... Thanks!!
  18. I think you might find a really good fit at Hoffberger School of Painting at MICA. Joan Waltemath is amazing. And they embrace figuration in that program as much as abstraction.
  19. Hi all- I will be there on the 4th, too. I'm in the process now of talking to a couple current Penn first-years I know... nothing specific to share yet, but I'll post as they mention things that everyone might find useful.... I am also in the money anxiety boat. It will be very curious to see what is offered when we get our letters on Monday..... L333makes - were you at SUNY Purchase yesterday? I wanted to find you, but it was too hard to figure out how to ask for you/introduce myself. What were your impressions of Purchase? We can also do a 4-way convo through messaging... a bit more private.
  20. Got wait-listed at Rutgers. Found out today via a letter sent on 3/4. BTW, my online application status reads "no decision," and not "wait-listed" for those of you who are wondering and might be in the same boat....
  21. Also got accepted to U Penn today via phone! Yay Yay Yay!! Absolutely one of my top choices - Yay also to wannaknow and L333makes.... See you at Penn on April 4th! I think the size of the program is 18 to 20 per year - for about 40 total MFAs all in different concentrations... A nice healthy size. So so so happy about this!!
  22. SUNY Purchase interview on March 9th..... I think Bard said they'd be telling us today about interview/ no interview. Has anyone heard from Bard yet?
  23. Can you post the Sculpture rankings - and/or New forms/ New genres/ Combined Media -- -whatever they call it? Those would be fun to see.... Thanks I agree that these rankings are somewhat random and irrelevant, but I'm still curious.
  24. Yay! Penn interview on Monday 2/14. Got an email today. Penn is one of my top choices so I'm excited and really nervous. I generally hate talking on the phone because of no eye-contact or tangible presence... Does any one have any clue what they will ask? I guess from other posts about interviews it is mostly questions about our ideas, process, and influences.... Advice on interviews, anyone?
