  1. Hey! I agree - I got the same email and asked the dept when I would get the final 'yes/no' and the dept then told me that I was basically admitted, but that it is just a formality for them to have to pass it onto the GSAS. The GSAS apparently just check that they have all the supporting materials from you, etc, before they give you a letter telling you that you are admitted! Good luck!
  2. PS. Forgot to say, I still haven't received anything official in the post about having got a place and I know how you feel. Even though I unofficially know (by email) that I have a place, it would really be good to see it on paper!
  3. I wouldn't worry at all. I was in a similar situation - had been told by the Head of Dept that my application had been recommended for their program at the school and that I would hear from them shortly regarding funding decisions. I actually ended up waiting 3 weeks before I heard back. I was contemplating whether I should email just to check if they were still interested in my application, but decided against it. I didn't want to bug them, even though I was desperate to find out! I hope you hear from them soon - I know what a nightmare it can be if you have to wait so long! Good luck!
  4. Hey! I was just wondering if anyone had considered deferring... I've been admitted to my top-choice school... but I didn't get any funding... As an international student, I was shocked to see how much it costs if you get no funding whatsoever! How do people go somewhere without any funding at all??? Apparently, there are very few assistantships available this year at this school. As an international student, I'm not entitled to a lot of the funding that American citizens are entitled to. Plus, lots of the deadlines to apply for funding have already passed. So, I'm thinking of taking a year out after completing my undergraduate studies this year and doing something related to my field next year, but also look for more funding opportunities - and hoping that I might also perhaps be considered for one of their assistantship again next year. Just wondering if other people are in the same situation as I am and what they are planning to do...
  5. Hey! I have a similar question too. I've been admitted to a school for a Linguistics PhD, but they are unable to offer me assistantship. I really wanna go there, but have no idea about funding. I'm British, so I think a lot of the external sources of funding out there might not be available for me. Does anyone know about possible external sources of funding you can apply for as an International student? Thanks!
