  1. I'm in the Russian and Eastern European Studies Program. You?
  2. Just a quick question (maybe not so quick): Is getting a Masters in a Regional Study at SFS only useful for doing foreign service or can it reach out into other private fields? Also, is getting a Masters in any IR or regional studies like the ones offered in Georgetown likely to just place you in the foreign service/intelligence agency in a bureaucratic level? I was hoping to translate the degree onto perhaps legislative experience(ie: working on a committee) or creating policy drafts..etc. Is that possible? Your thoughts please! Thanks!
  3. AHH - that's totally what's nagging at the back of my head. I can see myself being happy with the MPA and with the Russian Studies both, but more with Russian studies. What do most people do with a Masters in Regional Studies - goodness I should have done my research before I applied to the ONE non MPA/MPP program out of all my other 4 MPA/MPP programs.
  4. I'm at a fork in the road right now with my career and I think the grad school I choose will pretty much determine the rest of my life. They are two COMPLETELY different fields, both of which I would love doing (reasons listed below). Your thoughts? 1. NYU Wagner - MPA Health Program (#3 Ranked in the Country) Not only would living in NYC be great but with this program I can really get good policy/quantitative experience which I can use in a legislative career. I think this program and degree gives me the flexibility to do everything helping craft legislation, policies, and campaigning. I want to get involved with policy making and politics and this would provide me a great footing initially in the NYC level and all the way up to the federal level. Additionally, Health Policy is going to be big so its not like I'll be studying something stale and unnecessary. 2. Georgetown SFS - Masters in Russian and Eastern European Studies (Arguable the #1 Ranked) I absolutely love Russia and the language. I was a Russian major in college and absolutely loved it as well as studied aboard. I would love to work in International Relations policy dealing with Russian and Eastern Europe and would love to travel. It's a pretty prestigious program. My only downside is that I'm not too big of a fan on DC. Your thoughts!? THANKS!
  5. I wasn't able to make it to the Admitted Students Day but any insight from those who did would be really helpful! Sne1103, are you also in the MPA-HPAM program? What do you plan of specializing in?
  6. Hey you guys! I'll be going for the Health Policy and Management Program this fall! Totally excited about that too!
  7. Did anyone goto the NYU Wagner Open House? I missed it. Can anyone give me their thoughts?
  8. When did they say they will release funding decisions?
  9. Yah, I got nothing as of yet. Not even an official letter of acceptance in the mail. I did get an email though telling me I was accepted.
  10. I got into GPPI and was notified via email. They said they would send an official letter out in 2-4 weeks of the email but its been over a month and I got nothing official. Has anyone else gotten anything? I know the email said they recommended my admission to the Dean of the Georgetown Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Is this just a formality or can there be a chance that the Dean rejected the recommendation? Am I over worrying?
  11. I got in but haven't received anything in the mail - has anyone got the formal acceptance materials?
  12. I've seen some comparisons with GPPI and NYU. I got into both programs and was wondering which one is the strongest? I know NYU is ranked higher and that the two schools are probably different in focus, but what are the strengths/weaknesses of both schools in comparison? Thanks!
  13. How many students are usually in the graduate class? Are they known to help with financial aide? How strong is that International Health program? THANKS!
  14. Does anyone know any good scholarships that are available for those pursuing a Masters in Public Policy? If I go full time, do people recommend me getting a part time job? OR, should I go for my MPP part time and continue my full time job? What do you recommend? Thanks!
  15. What kind of careers can one go into with a strong policy analysis background?
  16. I'm looking into an MPP and want to eventually do legislative issues on Capitol Hill and eventually do campaign policy issues. Very politics and very campaign related. What should be my top choice, which should be my bottom choice? Since Georgetown is in DC and they get a lot of interface with this area, should that be considered (even though its program is lower ranked? 1. Georgetown 2. NYU 3. Berkeley 4. Harvard 5. Princeton Thanks!!!
  17. Anyone know where Georgetown School of Foreign Service stands in comparison to other schools on Russian and Eastern European Studies? Thanks!
  18. Thanks everyone for the reply! I'll definitely check the Government Affairs Board. Money is an issue, but I've yet to hear from any of them about financial aide. As for the DC locale, I know its useful for job/internship searches but does that weigh heavier than a higher ranked school (according to US News) like Berkeley or NYU?
  19. So I got into American, GW, and Georgetown for their Public Policy Programs. I've decided to goto Georgetown for sure but I've yet to hear from UC Berkeley and NYU. Which one should I go for those three? I know Berkeley and NYU is higher ranked that Gtown for their programs but for some reason I think Gtown has a stronger name when it comes to policy and doing work in government/politics/campaign after graduation. Your thoughts?
