  1. $14K is doable in Austin (my budget in undergrad was around that) of course, you won't be able to live right next to campus, but you could get a cute little house North of campus with a roommate and live a nice existence. The bus system is pretty good, and UT students ride for free.
  2. Yeah, my page has listed all of that stuff from the beginning. I was notified of acceptance by the Department, but I guess Rackham hasn't confirmed it yet. Do they wait for the first round of merit fellowship decisions to officially admit people and update the site?
  3. This thread is a little bit old, but in some disciplines (sciences, etc) you should also suggest some reviewers who would be knowledgeable about your specific subject material. This way, you at least have a shot at getting your paper reviewed by someone else who is familiar with your field. Otherwise, keep the letter short and polite and include the things listed in the OP.
  4. I had some Chinese coworkers in my lab so I learned a bit about China from them. I really want to visit Shanghai and Beijing sometime soon.
  5. Hey imchinese, what part of China are you in, and are you in school now?
  6. Yeah, I also don't have enough time to worry about everything I should be worrying about. Must... write... thesis... not thegradcafe posts...
  7. Anybody else apply to Univ of Washington's Public Health Genetics program (MPH, MS, or PhD)? I'm still waiting to hear back from them.
  8. JHU is competitive... all of the top 5 schools of public health are pretty competitive. Are you looking for your MPH, or a PhD? For a master's it's considerably less so, but for PhD, all of the top schools are going to get many more applications than spots to fill (i.e. I think Emory Epi PhD program get 100 apps for around 5 spots each year).
  9. I'm going to echo what the others have said here. Although online courses can be excellent, they typically don't have the same sort of interaction that a face-to-face or even interactive television course can have. I'm finishing up my MPH and have taken the full gamut of courses, and I would definitely recommend a brick-and-mortar program. Let us know what you decide!
  10. Alright, our own forum! We're too multidisciplinary to be stuck in social sciences (or where ever we were posting before). Perchance, did anyone else apply to Univ of Washington's Public Health Genetics program (masters or PhD)?
  11. I think this is the winner so far. This is the boat I'm in (except gf instead). Sigh. What we do for science.
  12. No... health services organization and policy is way too complicated for me. I am on the results board though. Good luck everyone! Glad to see some serious interest in Public Health. I'll probably run into some of you guys in real life at conferences at the like.
  13. Hey guys, This is an excellent forum. I wish I had found this before I started the application process because then I could have been compulsively checking another site! I heard from a Univ of Michigan Public Health (not Epi) PhD program a couple of days ago and was accepted. The prospective student day is coming up in a couple of weeks. Good luck to everyone else. Epi is going to be really competitive this year.
