  1. From what I was told it needed to be a class with a lab. I was under the impression that most bio/chem/physics classes had labs already built into them..maybe I lucked out and that only applied for the school I went too. I'm a post-bacc too by the way and after almost two years of classes I still need a few more requirements

  2. What an excellent question!

I am moving from Pittsburgh to Knoxville and I am very excited about the move. This summer I will be returning to my old place of employment for two months until I make the final move to Tennessee during the middle of July. I already have a busy few months lined up, but here's a few more things I'd like to do:

    1. Finish the rest of James Patterson novels I've bought recently (Alex Cross and Michael Bennett)

    2. Trout fish some of my favorite streams in central and western PA (Slippery Rock Creek, East Fork AND First Fork of the Sinnemahoning River, Salmon Run, Trout Run)

    3. Kayak the Slippery Rock gorge with my twin brother

    4. Brush up on some A&P stuff from undergrad/post-bacc (school related I know, but a must!)

    5. Kentucky Derby in-field with some friends from back home!

    6. Hike part of the North Country Trail in Tionesta, PA

    7. Clean up my apartment in Pittsburgh and move everything into storage (my parents garage) until July

    8. Get my car fixed for the massive amount of miles I'm going to (continue to) put on it in the coming years.

    9. Work my butt off to make enough money to pay for the first 6 months of my apartment (just a personal goal).

    10. Have fun and spend as much time as possible as I can with my girlfriend before school starts back up and we are both busy once again.

  3. Which school would you pick for SLP considering various factors (location, program and job opportunities)? I like Temple for the location but I guess Pitt is more well known in the field..

I will be completing my post-bacc classes at Pitt next week (I have been here for three semesters) and I have loved everything about it. The professors are excellent and Oakland is a great area of Pittsburgh. UPMC is a world recognized medical institution and that allows for some great clinical rotations with some very well known clinicians in the field. There are plenty of job opportunities in the area as well. Pittsburgh is continually ranked as the top city to live in and Pitts SLP program is a top 15 program in the nation. Do yourself a favor and come to Pitt!

  4. UIUC! Sent in my acceptance on the first, and now I'm just waiting to hear more from them. They're waiting until after the fifteenth to start sending out more information, I'd suspect. The program starts in June though, so I wish they'd hurry it up!

congrats! The waiting affffter the waiting is a killer haha I'm sure it'll all be worth it and you'll have a great time in the program!

  5. That is exciting! I just found out the other day I am still being considered for the program.. They were missing something before.

Oh yeah? Well I hope you decide to attend! All the faculty are very knowledgeable and helpful

  6. Haha! I am going through a nasty breakup with Pitt. I was waitlisted and find myself thinking as I walk past the school "Pshhh.... after EVERYTHING I've done for you!"

    It's sad.

Anyone ever see the Sex and the City episode where Carrie is going through her first break-up with Big and rebounds with the New Yankee? "Break-up rule number one...destroy all pictures where he looks sexy and you look happy." I guess I have to destroy all my pictures alongside the School of Health and Rehab Sciences. BUMMER

I have to agree here. Waitlisted at Pitt...after a year and a half of post-bacc work and going above and beyond. Not the same feeling going into class every day now.

  7. I am just wondering if anyone has decided to accept an offer at a school without hearing back from every place they applied to? I'm still waiting on a couple decisions, but I'm wondering if I should make a cut off date for myself to say, 'ok those other schools are taking too long, I'm just going to get on with it at school A'

I know that for undergrads their acceptances are going to be happening in April (or was it May 1st?) and that will lead to more competition for housing and things like that. So just curious if some of you are deciding to go ahead without hearing all of your decisions.

I'm in this boat, but mainly because I've only received one acceptance so far haha. The program has everything I want though, so I feel fine about "deciding" already. I have my cut off date set for next Wednesday before I leave for a mini vacation!

  8. I'm going for to visit the department on May 2nd and I can't wait. I only have one day that trip and then I'll be down again two weeks after that to try and find an apartment and all that fun stuff. Still waiting on that official letter and funding notification!

  9. I will most likely be accepting a position in the M.S. speech-language pathology program at UTK. Someone tell me about living in Knoxville..where to live, work and play (when I have time!). My main concern right now is where to live.

  10. The University of Montana, which is where I'm doing my undergrad. I just got their email on monday so they're only giving me 10 days to think it over.

    That's such a short window...think it through!

Side note: I've spent a lot of time in MT and WY and I have to say that I'm jealous you get to live there. I had my application to MT completed, but I never turned it in for one reason or another.
