  1. The advice that I've gotten is: sometimes yes, sometimes no. If it's a good program, there are faculty you would want to meet, and it's not really difficult for either you or the school to arrange transportation - I would say it's worth checking out, since you might find you "click" well with the department.
  2. I was under the impression that if they want to replace someone who has not accepted their offer, they will go to the wait list, but they'll pick someone from the same subfield as the first candidate. I could be wrong about that, though.
  3. I think Harvard is done with acceptances, but I don't know about waitlists.
  4. I don't remember submitting a writing sample for Yale or Harvard. I was told by my adviser that the writing sample wasn't particularly important to a lot of schools, since committees have a lot to read and would probably just skim the writing requirement if they read it at all.
  5. I know they've been calling people, but I haven't received any kind of official email. This makes me think that they're still accepting people, although I'm not sure.
  6. I can confirm that the acceptance email from Harvard said there were only 27 admits. It didn't mention if all admits had been notified.
  7. Claiming the Harvard acceptance! (Or, at least the one that talks about being completely surprised based on a rejection from Yale -- I still can't believe it!)
  8. I'm an undergraduate at Michigan, and from what I'm hearing from professors, they took less students this year because of financial reasons.
  9. Claiming one of the Columbia acceptances. After getting rejected from Yale today, I didn't expect to get in! Comparative politics, with a regional focus on Latin America
  10. Got accepted by one of my safety schools (Minnesota) and rejected by one of my reach schools (Yale) on the same day. Can't say I'm surprised. At least I only have to wait on Harvard and Columbia...
