Well, I've only been up for a recruitment weekend, but I know enough to say that there is essentially nothing in Storrs itself. Grad students generally live in 1 of 2 towns: Vernon or Manchester, each about a 20-30 minute drive to campus.
  2. So...after interviewing with Buffalo at the end of January, I have still not heard one way or the other from them. I emailed my POI 2 weeks ago, and he said they were still deciding and that I was still under consideration. I just noticed that they are not members of the Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology - which I guess means that they are not obligated by the April 15th rule... Problem is, I've got one acceptance elsewhere, but I don't think I can adequately compare and decide between the two without visiting Buffalo (this is assuming I get in there). And if they wait too long, I won't be able to visit! I wonder if they are waiting for people who got accepted elsewhere to withdraw, so that they insure that the people they give offers to accept.
  3. Just did the same, with the same result...more poor little ego, it's been taking a battering.
  4. Anyone hear anything from SUNY Buffalo, Purdue or Northeastern? It's been all quiet for me...
  5. I'd just like to offer some encouragement to the people that didn't have any luck this year. I was in your position in 2008, but this year I was able to get in. Really, so much of this process is beyond your control, what with the availability of funding, willingness of the prof to take a student any given year, and whatever your competition is. I'd encourage you to try again next year - at least with me, I knew I was qualified, I just had to wait for the stars to align just right. Take this next year to get out of some undergrad debt, get some world experience and make sure the grad school is really what you want to do. Next year you'll be all the better for it... Talking as someone who has been there - it really isn't the end of the world.
  6. I see a few people mentioning rankings....what exactly are you using for this? The only rankings I have seen were on the social psychology network website, but they are well over a decade old.
  7. Ugh, that's a pain Sweeney. I can relate. One school I applied to (I won't name which) actually lost my transcript 3(!) times before I finally just faxed my own copy. That was a bizarre experience - it got to the point where the woman at my undergrad registrar would actually laugh when I told her who was calling. It's all about perseverance in this business...
  8. Interesting....When did you hear from Buffalo? Their recruit weekend is in February I think. I had the same experience as you with Missouri: no rejection letter, but my POI decided our interests didn't overlap enough after a few emails. I'm not holding out much hope for Rochester.
  9. Hi guys/competition, I wish I had found this site earlier - the suffering seems a bit easier when you know others are experiencing it too (free experiment idea, anyone?). Anyway, here are my results thus far: Accepted: UConn Interviewed: SUNY Buffalo Waiting: Rochester, UMass, Northeastern, Purdue, Maryland Rejected: U of Missouri So I'll be attending the UConn recruit in 2 weeks. I don't know what happened with Buffalo - interviewed over 2 weeks ago and then haven't heard a sound. Anyone hear anything from these schools yet?
