  1. Hi, Tulip, I've been accepted to UNCW (not for psych, though, sorry uncwchristina). What can you tell me about the area? I've also created a thread under the City Guide page (called, cleverly, Wilmington, NC), if you want to post there instead. I'm curious about the general atmosphere of the city (or is it more of a town?). I've posted several questions on the other thread. Thanks!
  2. Hello, Anyone have insider info about Wilmington, NC? I've been accepted to the MFA (Creative Writing) program at UNCW, and I'm seriously considering it. Before I jump right in, I'd really like to get a feel for the area. -Which are the nice neighborhoods for grad students, and which are the ones to stay away from? Are most areas relatively safe? What are rents like? I'd prefer to live alone, rather than sharing an apartment or house. Is that pricey? -What's the area like? Any cool bars? Is it a nice place to live? Are the nearby beaches nice? -Are there any dog parks? Is it a dog-friendly town? I don't currently have a dog, but I'm thinking about getting one... -Where do the undergrads live (so that I can avoid them!)? -Anything else I should know? Thanks so much!
  3. Here's the deal. I applied to Johns Hopkins Creative Writing MFA in Fiction program. Here's what I know so far, according to the posts: ~Someone was rejected at the beginning of March (if that person reads this, I'm sorry and I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your applications!). That's the only post from 2007, but there were probably others. ~Posts from 2006 show a few rejections at the beginning of March, and one acceptance in the middle of the month. ~I broke down at the end of February and called the office, which told me decisions would be sent out "anytime between now and the end of March. We try to get everything done by the end of March, but it doesn't always happen that way." ~I have no idea if there's a difference in the notification for Poetry vs. Fiction applicants, but not everyone posts which specific program they were trying for, so if anyone has any inside info, that'd be AWESOME! What do you guys think that it all means? I'm trying to convince myself that my rejection just got lost in the mail, but it's getting so late in the month that I'm DYING to hear SOMETHING! When should I contact them again? Should I wait until someone else posts something? Wait till mid-April? It's such a small program, it's entirely possible there won't be any more posts. Any advice or thoughts on what this means would be so very very appreciated! Thanks so much!
