  1. Hey Cithea, I interviewed at ICP two sundays ago (the 15th). Haven't heard yet. Nayland said they would get back to us in a week or two. I'm guessing it could be any day now. where else did you apply? Yale:interview (monday) ICP: interviewed (15th) waiting Parsons: accepted hunter, columbia: rejected
  2. Hello all, Photography applicants: Is anyone else interviewing at Yale next week? Have any of you been accepted to Parsons, and if so, are you considering enrolling? Anybody interview at ICP-Bard?
  3. hey nathan, Here is my estimate on the numbers for parsons photo. If you had an interview I'd say chances are pretty good. They take 15-18 students per year, and they interviewed 30. I'm guessing they accepted around 25 figuring some decline. Each year they offer entrance to people on the waitlist. So if your in that thirty I'd have hope.
  4. hey cd3, Its really strange about the 3 year proposal, i've never heard anything like it. My suggestion would be to talk directly with charles traub. Definitely reject the 3 year, but impress your interest in the 2. SVA is greedy. This is probably some policy decision made by the all to rich Rhodes family to syphon some more money from us. I'd imagine you'd have luck talking directly with the chair. They wouldn't have accepted you if they didn't like your work. While Hunter is cheap, SVA is a better program. The faculty is way stronger and opportunities abound. Try your luck cutting the red tape here. What were they proposing you do in your extra year? good luck with Hunter!
  5. hello all, update here. Parsons: accepted w/ half tuition scholarship
  6. hello all. The first round is finally over. Got my rejection letter in the mail from columbia today. Beyond a doubt, if you haven't heard yet your in my boat. Here is my tally in the prelims Yale: interview march 30th ICP-Bard: Interview March 15th Parsons: Interviewed two weeks ago Hunter: rejected columbia: rejected We all picked a hell of a time to apply to school. best of luck
  7. Hey Bay ICP has rolling admissions, so depending when you applied you are still in the running I sent in my app in early JAN and have an interview scheduled for March15th I interviewed at Parsons late last week....friday i think. I got the impression that they made their cut, but they were also severely disorganized. They could barely direct me to the right building. It wouldn't surprise me if they were still offering interviews. I didn't apply to SVA but I know they report later than most. best of luck
  8. COLUMBIA: I heard the photo dept. "does its own thing" and is "very secretive" during the preliminary app process. Its possible they are lagging behind...snow days and what-have-you. Who knows? They take so damn long to make a decision, I forgot I applied. I'm numb to the waiting at this point and on to obsessing over the interview. And its mighty nice to have some time to think this over.
  9. Hello all, A mixed day of news on the MFA front. Rejection from Hunter (saw that coming though thanks to the diligent posting by y'all) And Parsons called to tell me that my interview is tomorrow. Some schools give you over a month notice and Parsons is less than 24 hours. The person I talked to did not even know what building I was going to. Apparently they are doing most interviews by phone and tomorrow is the last day. This is only photography by the way, who knows what goes on in the rest of this school. Here it goes Yale: interview Columbia: no news ICP-Bard: interview Parsons: Interview Hunter: Rejected
  10. hello all, Helenforsdale: Yale interviews....... I wasn't given a concrete #, but was told that the list of interviewees was "Very short". Generally these programs will interview twice the admitted class and perhaps a few more. For Photo I'm guessing Yale picked 20-25 people. Yale is not as interdisciplinary as Columbia. The departments are a bit more segregated in terms of buildings studios and crits. But I was told students are welcome to sit-in on crits and attend lectures in other departments. Last year Columbia admitted 3 students for photography. They interviewed 6. This year I hear that number will go up a few. Does anybody know of a program in any field that is more competitive than that? With those numbers I doubt even bribes work! cd3: SVA is a terrific program. The faculty is really diverse in practice and very well established. I know quite a few people who have come through the program making great work and are well established themselves. In NY, SVA is a very reputable school. If you compare their faculty list to any other school, you will notice it is twice as long. So many artists teach there part-time. The strength of SVA....by the time you graduate you will know more than enough people to be able to find good freelance work to support yourself and pay back your 100 grand in loans. And you will know the right people to show your work to. Bad news is, the food in that part of town SUCKS.
  11. How about that. Jerry V is a good friend of mine. studied c printing with him in SVA about 5 years ago and been friends ever since. That guy knows everybody. I was a TA at ICP for a semester a few years ago. Spent a lot of time in those darkrooms.
  12. It is early yet with parsons. They sounded really disorganized. Setting up an interview felt like dealing with the cable company. Update from Columbia: Painting and Photography programs are still reviewing preliminary apps. (friend in the program reported) {CD3} Who did you study with at ICP? The BFA thing will not matter if the work is good. Its probably in you corner; these programs like to integrate different backgrounds and points of view.
  13. Hey cd3, Thanks. I think parsons has a good program. Fairly young faculty making strong work. The phone call I received led me to believe they are very disorganized over there. I wouldn't count yourself out in the least. where did you do your undergrad?
  14. Hello all, I'm applying in Photography my results thus far I see some of you were invited for interviews at Hunter; which programs were you applying for? and how did they contact you? Yale: Interview (in the mail a few weeks back) Columbia: Nothing yet Parsons: Interview (phone call yesterday) ICP-Bard: Interview (Email on monday) Hunter: Nothing yet
  15. has anyone heard back on preliminary decisions? still waiting here on NYC schools.....Yale is reporting
