  1. 15th April. But the rush is not NU but my work, I MUST tell them I quit before 15th March and I want to be able to do that knowing that I have accepted an offer and that I am covered because for some reason I fear they are going to take back the offer, lol.

If you got their official paper offer, I don't think they can take it back anyway. Sue them if they did. LOL

  2. Yeah that's what I noticed, too. Thanks for the reply. Hopefully they'll get around to it next week or sometime soon. I've heard from 4 of my 5 schools so far. NYU's the last one left. Congrats on your acceptances!

How about your other 4 schools?

Did anyone try Haas OM? I knew several guys got rejection, but I heard nothing from them. Any thoughts?

  3. I think Cornell is in early March. Columbia should be soon though

From the OR thread last year, Cornell is changing their strategy. They make very attractive offer to the best candidate very early such that they can compete with other best OR programs, like Stanford or MIT, on the best applicants. Then, they might slow the process a little bit. It is not surprised if you receive their offer after April. They did that all the time. Cornell is the heaven for PURE math guys. Stay away from them if you are not that into the PURE math part of OR.

  4. Lol, sounds like you were interviewed and became worried all of a suuden with this comment smile.gif

(by the way, I was interviewed. 6 of us were, I know that because they uploaded a spreadsheet for us to sign up so I could see all the names. Still no news...)

I emailed the H professor today. He told me that they made initial offers to international students. I am not sure, by "made", he means already notify the applicants or just purely made. He is also quite honest, telling me I am VERY unlikely to be admitted. Story closed. Move on to the next one.

  5. To those who hasn't heard from NU, including myself, be ready for either good or bad news. They interviewed some international applicants and also told some shortlisted. So, if you didn't hear from them again, like myself, you are either their top candidates or at the end of their shortlist. But I guess I am in the second situation. Good Luck to others.

  6. Hmmm...not sure. Call Adam. Super helpful, and doesn't get mad that you are asking him stuff(that's his sole role @ IEMS) and you don't have to give your name. Might be worth it.

Well, emailed him last Friday. He said, "don't worry. We'll let you know when the decisions are made." I felt I was going to be turned town by tone like this. LOL

  7. I am curious about Mich and GaTech. Btw has anyone heard anything from the following schools?

    GaTech

    Cornell

    Columbia

I have complete silence from them after I got all my materials in and I'm curious if I'm already out like NU?

Usually, GaTech notifies the results to ALL applicants at round April 1.

Cornell and Columbia will have their first round offers sent out in about two weeks.

  8. "In My Opinion"

Those rankings are very correlated with department size, so NU, a smaller program than some others, is at a disadvantage. The rankings don't necessarily imply which school is "better" for you, its all about finding someone to work with that you like and can guide you. A bad adviser usually spells doom for a PhD.

Larger programs like Michigan and Gatech typically like to match you up with an adviser early so you don't get lost in the department, so he was implying that if you haven't spoken to any faculty yet(which you have at mich), you are pretty far out unless you qualify for a university fellowship or NSF.

so true. those rankings kinda wacky. the rankings consider all branches of IE. But if you focus on OR, the top schools should be among Stanford, GaTech, MIT, Cornell, Princeton, Berkeley and Columbia. I guess 90% top-notch researchers in OR got their PhDs from one of these schools.

  9. NU is my top choice. :-))))))

I'm interested in OR/sim with a focus on healthcare or energy.

Wait to see the result of Stanford. I bet you have a damn good chance.

Probably you can cross Michigan off from your list, if you do not have a specific prof you wanna work with.

Michigan is no way better than NU IMO.

BTW, who does health care or energy OR at NU?

  10. Hey Guys, the latest news: MIT/ORC's final decisions (PhD) will be made by the end of this week and sent out starting this week...Exciting...Worrying... This information is provided by the graduate coordinator from ORC...

thx. one more rejection on the way.

  11. Man it would be awesome if there was like a tool that everyone could use to post their results. If it was searchable that'd be even better. I mean if you really wanted you could look at the history of the program through the years and see when some of them actually get around to contacting students!

Wait, that's right, we have exactly this tool: http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index ... t=a&o=&p=1

Anyways... I'm expecting to see the first responses at the end of next week. If their habits don't change it should be between thursday and saturday. It's also possible they send out something this evening, but that seems unlikely.

I did that. That's also the reason I post this thread, since they're already behind their habit of last year. thx for your words though.
