  1. Is anyone familiar with Columbia's East Asian Language and Culture program? Does anyone know of any other programs with a culture and language component? I'd like to continue my language studies with my grad degree but would rather do so as part of a program. The EALAC program is interesting because you acquire language proficiency during and do not need it prior to beginning though I do have a basic command of Mandarin. I've heard of Monterey Institute for International Studies, but it seems their price tag may outweigh what their name carries, but I could be mistaken. I'd also be interested in language training programs for grad students? Not necessarily the competitive fellowships abroad but something where you can enter not knowing much and gain a working knowledge of the language. I will have a MS in Criminal Justice this year but have found my interests lie more within international relations/ foreign service and would like to make myself a more competitive candidate for jobs and top grad programs.
  2. Has anyone applied to Columbia's East Asian Language and Culture program? How competitive is the program? Their website does not show that much information so I'm wondering if I have a shot.
  3. Anyone here applied to Columbia's East Asian Language and Culture program?
  4. Looks promising and more convenient than DC as I live in NY right now. I'm working on an app for their EALAC program as well.
  5. thanks I will look into that option, I've never heard of SIT before
  6. Does anyone know of any programs in Government Affairs/International Affairs, Asian Languages or Russian languages in the NY or DC area that have rolling admissions and possibly a summer start? Unfortunately my current school/work plan fell through and now I'm in 'crunch time' trying to find an alternative. (Nationwide freeze on hiring in federal positions) Ideally I would like to end up in the foreign service field either public or private sector; I also have an interest in humanitarian affairs, especially anti-human trafficking initiatives. I've studied International Politics, Italian, Mandarin & Russian and have a basic command of Arabic. I've just narrowly missed most deadlines for the fall but I know there has to be something out there. I am taking the GRE Saturday as my previous MS Criminal Justice degree from Boston University did not require me to take it. I am aware that it is too late to get into any of the top schools but as returning to school right now is my only option I am willing to forgo a top name to further my education and hopefully make it into Georgetown's foreign service program down the road. I sincerely appreciate any help anyone could give. I am 'planner' and am extremely stressed as I did not expect myself to get into this sort of situation but would rather not sit out and wait another whole year to begin a program since there are no jobs out there, especially in my fields of interest! Thank you
  7. I've also applied for Fall 2011 with the Transnational Security concentration. When did you apply/have you heard yet? I was told its a 2-3week turn around for a decision.. I applied Jan 27 so I am just waiting to hear and for the online app tracker to update that they did receive my transcripts! Good luck!
