  1. I can't do that in an arena full of gators!! I'm telling you...I will not convert. It's gonna be one weird transition to go from one SEC school to another!! I will miss seeing orange and blue everywhere I go.
  2. Do any of you guys have cute SLP related ideas for your graduation cap? We are allowed to decorate ours and I wanted it to be about SLP. I was gonna have it say "Go Gators" in IPA, but it doesn't look that cool lol.
  3. Your terrible grammar and inappropriate use of ellipses makes for one weak argument. Quit hating and get back to us when you can type a coherent sentence
  4. You're pretty mature for someone who has been practicing for 6 years. And it's humorous how you think you can tell so much about our cultural backgrounds from a forum.
  5. Buying orange is gonna be difficult for me because I'm a Gator! It's gonna be such a weird transition.
  6. I'm going there in the fall and from what I know they said they were unsure how many/if any assistantships they would have to offer. I'm in state tuition though, so it's not too disheartening although I'd love to have one eventually for my resume. The most helpful thing for looking at their off campus clinics is definitely that newsletter.
  7. I attended it last weekend! We started out with a lunch where different professors and current students mingled and introduced themselves to us. We then had a brief introduction about the program where the faculty were sure to address the issue of safety in the city of Memphis since it was a pretty hot topic. The Downtown Clinic is located in a medical center, next to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, a few blocks from St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Lebonheur Children's hospital and others. We got to meet with academic and clinical faculty and discuss our interests and career goals. While I thought the amount of clinical opportunities were great and the professor seemed nice, but challenging, I got the impression that UM was very heavy on research; professors doing research and almost all students involved in some sort of research. This is not really my thing so I was a little turned off by that. I just really wanna be a clinician. The professors were all great though and it seemed like most of them talked about how they have good relationships with the students in and out of class. I did though overhear a student saying that you could never get in touch with a professor outside of class because he was so enthralled in his research. That being said, Memphis seemed like a great program!! It was really cool to be surrounded by students, faculty, and prospective students who were so passionate about the field. There's a lot of clinical facilities available on and off campus that were really appealing. I will say however, that if you take a wrong turn in the city you could end up in a really bad area so it would seem like you'd really have to learn your way around. I'm not trying to diss it at all, I'm just giving the opinion that I received from it. Hope this helps!
  8. GPA- 3.81 GRE- 1040 I completed research for a professor involving fluency disorders for a book he's writing. I also have volunteer experience in the field. A few other extracurriculars and I've been a camp counselor for 4 summers.
  9. That's about 85% correct at this point!! I get a better feeling about it every day, but we'll see after the Memphis Open House on Friday.
  10. Just got accepted to ETSU. I won't be attending though; not really interested in their program.
  11. Hahahahaha my own mom hates those moms so that won't be a problem!
  12. Lol ok glad I'm not the only one! I know my mom won't understand half the stuff that's going on, and I'm sure if she wants to skip out on stuff she can leave or whatever.
  13. I agree, I want to be able to talk to someone about it and help me sort out my thought processes. She also wants to see the campus herself and hear about the program because my parents have concerns that the area is not safe (Memphis) and I figure there's no way she'd know unless she went with me.
  14. Silly question, but I'm going to an Open House next weekend and have never been to one before. I RSVPed for myself and my mom as my guest. Is it weird to bring a parent with you?
  15. I know I for sure wanna do Peds, I just really haven't narrowed it down to anything. I think I want to apply for the Aural Habilitation concentration if I go to UTK though.
  16. In my acceptance letter, UM said they would be sending another letter in the coming weeks about funding. So I'm still waiting on that. I'm really conflicted right now!
  17. I emailed about funding and Dr. Plyler said they offer "relatively small scholarships," but their website says they have assistantships. I"m confused haha.
  18. The UT interview was pretty informal. The professor talked to me a little bit about some notes she had made based on my chart and then asked if I had any questions. It was laid back. Don't fret over it!
  19. I just had a great interview with the University of Tennessee- Knoxville and got my acceptance letter for the University of Memphis! WOOOOO!
  20. Mine is with Dr. Ellen Hamby. Thank you so much! Good luck on yours as well
