  1. yeah the living issue... lincoln park is pretty expensive, I don't really think that I want to do that. other than that, also, it is like either families and fancy professors, or undergrads-there are not so many cool places to hang ot. i think the logan square area and the andersonville are really nice. Last year when I went to chicago for study abroad, I lived in andersonville, it's a nice(a bit yuppie though) environment, by the redline, relatively reasonable prices and transportation. other than that, I really liked the logan square-great cafes, restaurants(there is a fantastic italian restaurant that would be enough to make me wanna live there). all the other grad students I know live there-the only problem would be that the transport would be by bus rather than train. prices are really reasonable, and it is a secure part of the city, too. there are no posts fpr august anywhere yet, so it is more like daydreaming:) What about you guys-do you have any ideas?I don't know maybe I am way too excited about moving to chicago!
  2. I don't know much about your area-so no comments about the departments. But maybe it would help to know that boulder is a truly wonderful city to live in.
  3. hey, I'll be going there as well, for the philosophy ph.d program
  4. there is no plan at all offered by the school. They are paying an extra amount of stipend to find and pay for a plan that I find, not even a very basic one,
  5. Hey, so, I will start this Ph.d program on September, but the thing is that the university does not offer a health coverage, though paying a not-so-bad fellowship. I am an international student, so it is not an option for me to "stay on my parents' plan". Is there any idea what should I do? Can the graduate student be considered as 'students' for example-so that I can get a student plan?Finding a job is already out of the picture.
  6. thanks a lot! this is really a relief..(though the real one-hopefully- will come on march 11th..
  7. So, there is this school I had been interested in for a long time, I met the faculty for the first time in a series of conferences like 2 years ago, and then(as I am not from the U.S) I went there as an exchange student for 2 quarters. I had the chance to get to know most of the faculty in the meanwhile, and couple of the committee members offered me to wrote LORs for my application. Now, they are on the reviewing process, on the 3rd round of reviews, which will be the interviews. I had been told that "since they know me so well" there is no need for me to go through another round of interviews. I am basically going crazy, for there is another 2 weeks or so for the final decision, in the meanwhile they are telling me that they "cannot make any promises at this point, but the faculty likes my application very much", and that "they are very much hopeful that I will be a student in the program very soon". What do you think these are, is it good or bad to be exempt from the interviews, and what does this "we cannot make any promises since the prospective students haven't visited us yet" part mean?
