Spread sheet is messed up ... again. Seems like stuff in some columns shifted down by 2 rows.
-
Me too I really want this (full grant), and it's an odd feeling, like a combination of sadness and acceptance. Still, I'm really hoping I get an email or call from them before orientation saying I went from alternate to recipient. Let's hope we make it ...
-
Whoever's in charge of the spreadsheet can you please take a look at it. It's all messed up, I mean like big time. There's info from notification dates missing, the headings are in the middle, it's just weird.
-
Btw, incase anyone is wondering I applied to Guatemala, under the category of religion.
-
Diddo on the alternate. Saw the white little envelope and just sighed and said, ok. Alternate status = more waiting. For some reason I feel more at peace though, at least I wasn't rejected. But it's a bit upsetting I still have no clue as to whether I'm a recipient or not and will probably not know for the next month or two. I really want this Fulbright, and I really need it too. Best wishes for everyone else!

BIG NEWS! I received an email from Cara Wolinsky saying they sent out letters to CENTRAL AMERICA / CARIBBEAN on Monday , so we should be hearing back soon!!! Back to checking the mail one million times a day! So excited.
-
HLW2260 ... Did you remove yourself from the spreadsheet??? Because if not, someone is messing with the spreadsheet and that's just plain wrong. Anyways, double check. STOP CHANGING THE SPREADSHEET PPL!!!
-
Glad other Central America ppl noticed that. I was like, wait what??? Let's hope this does mark the start, because I'm still waiting. I emailed Cara yesterday, regarding affiliation stuff, and also happened to plug in the Q? about notification dates (just had too , since I've never dared email till today). No reply yet. But I will let you all know what she says when I get her response.
-
Hi mj90 Thank you for letting us know what info you have on the notification date. Last year Central America/Carribean ppl were notified at the end of March/Beg of April. So Let's hope it gets here soon. Anyone else emailed Cara Wolinsky recently to see what's the update on the timeline? If not, anyone willing to? haha. Just kidding. I say if it doesn't get here within the next two weeks then we should email. Also, anyone else a Guatemala Applicant? Full or ETA?
-
Yay more Central America/Caribbean ppl!!! I'm waiting to hear from Guatemala ... Last year someone got their letter on the 29th. But it seems like this year we will have to wait a bit more. Let's hope it gets here soon! All Central America/Caribbean ppl please add info in the spreadsheet if you hear back. Thanks!

I would not call it stupid. I would say that assuming you make an informed, and well-thought decision, regardless of what you decide on it will not be a stupid decision. You need to put your relationship and the Fulbright and the MA on a scale, and measure the pros and cons to any decision you make. Personally, i've been in a long distance relationship for 1.5yrs. Yes, it's LONG distance, he's in central america and I am in Calif so it's pretty long distance. We both have commitments that only let us visit each other 2 times a year, and for short periods of time. Most of our relationship in fact has been long distance. At this point, given the seriousness of our relationship, we would like to cut this whole long distance thing because YES it's complicated. It's tough. Some days are great, and other days are hard to get through. However, skype has become our best friend. We email/skype/call each other every day. The reason why we thought Fulbright would be awesome is because it would actually allow us to be closer (I"m applying to central america), but, if I don't get it he's definitely coming back to the US (he's working there). Anyways, the point is that we are serious about each other, but he also cares about my academic/professional growth. So, talk with your girlfriend. Are you two mature enough to be long distance? And, will she go with you to your top MA program, or will that distance you all anyways (although distance is not the same from state to state in comparison with country to country). You will have other opportunities in life, but Fulbright is a big one. Most MA programs will defer you, so that you can enter after you get back from the Fulbright. They want you especially if you are a fulbright recipient. So think about it, and see what's most important to you, or what you can manage. Best of luck

I'm a research finalist to the Western Hemisphere too! That's a really good question. I think the best thing to do would be to contact the host-country university you are affiliating with. You may or may not have to go through the same admission process other students go through. I provided unofficial transcripts to my affiliation. They didn't need a translation of the transcript then, but that was about a year ago. Also, the host-country university I'm affiliating with does state that international students wishing to admit need an their earned degrees approved by the embassy in their country embassy in the host country. I didn't specify when I wanted to start either. They say that most grantees in my host country begin in the fall, with August being the soonest and March the latest when one can start. When I spoke with the affiliated university, the dean mentioned he would prefer I begin in the fall semester. However, their semester begins in late July, meaning I'd miss a couple of days of class. So I was thinking it might be best for me to start in the spring, or I don't know. I'm assuming that the embassy of the host country (or the Fulbright commission if your country has one) will just contact the affiliate university and ask them when they want you to start. Or maybe, they'll leave it up to you to do that research (since we had to find our own affiliates anyways). I know this doesn't really answer your question, but at least you know you have someone whose in the same boat as you are. I'm hoping we will hear from Fulbright within the next two weeks. Soon after that I want to contact Fulbright/the university to figure out when they want me (or when I can choose) to begin. Ah! This is so stressful. I'm super excited, and cannot wait to hear back. I really want this! Question: "siguenomas"—I'm assuming you are going to a Latin American country. Which one? (Can't tell from the spreadsheet)

Ugh, this is making me even more anxious for these next two weeks to fly by (given last year's spreadsheet most of Caribbean/Latin America ppl found out around the end of March/beg of April). Seems like they aren't trying to get them in sooner this year. More waiting ... Congrats to all those who just heard you're in! So exciting to hear everyone's plans, especially those bringing significant others along . With me it's kind of the opposite. My boyfriend's in the host country (working). So he's definitely wanting to hear back asap to know if he should stay (given that I would get the fulbright) or return. And yes, it's crazy that this totally designates where we will be living in a few months. It's not just like oh, I'm moving to another state. It's another country, and involves paperwork and agh! Ok, gotta get back to writing a paper. Still need to graduate hahahaha.
