  1. I'm currently enrolled in an MS program in communication sciences and disorders, and was fortunate to receive funding as a TA to two professors in my department who were teaching the same course. Things started off great and I really enjoyed my time with them. However, as the semester has progressed I've been having some personal concerns about one of the professors I assist. When clinic began for me I notified her that seeing my client would interfere with hours but I would be happy to rearrange my availability. Her reply was less than enthusiastic. Ever since, whenever I am meeting with her she seems very short and even at times rude with me. I pushed this aside because the department was going through some changes, but even now she is very short with me, telling me what she needs help with only to tell me that I'm not "getting enough hours" or venting her frustrations once I complete something for her. I feel that my performance overall has suffered because of her constantly being short and mean-tempered with me. While discussing my situation with another TA who did undergrad at the same university, I was told that this professor has a reputation for being rude and this is known even among faculty. When asked what to do, I was told to "just rough it out and see". Should I asked to be reassigned to a different professor in the spring? I am really dreading being her teaching and research assistant in the spring because my schedule will be much more busy and she seems very uninterested in the fact that I have my own classes and clinic to attend to as well. To be honest, I also feel under-appreciated and at times I even feel as if I'm her go-to person to vent and complain to. I don't see myself being able to cope well with this professor in the spring, so any advice on who to talk to or what to do would be very much appreciated.
  2. Hi there. I applied to two schools for a masters (we'll call them A and B ). School A let me know almost three weeks ago that I was accepted and needed to make a decision by April 1. The week of April 1 I emailed and was graciously offered an extension until the week of the 15th. I breathed a heavy sigh of relief but immediately called School B. They hadn't made a final decision yet and didn't expect to until April 14/15. To be honest, School B is closer to home and much cheaper, so that is why I am holding out for their decision. I feel terrible that I am making School A wait this long for a simple yes or no. I have called School B every Monday and Friday for the past 3 weeks (I'm positive they recognize me on caller ID now). I just want a simple answer, that's all. So my question is, what should I do? Should I lay off? Should I keep calling? I don't want to come off as rude to them by calling so much, but I don't want to be rude to School A by making their department and some poor anxious student next in line on the waitlist wait until the last minute. If any of you have advice, please feel free to offer it. This is my first time applying to grad school, so it's possible I'm just overreacting.
  3. I applied to a university with a February 1st deadline, and have not heard back yet. Late last week when I logged in I had an email from them saying "Congratulations, you're eligible for a merit scholarship!". It said that based on my GRE scores I qualified and to apply as soon as my admission decision was announced. I hate to sound nosy, but does this mean that I'm accepted or have a good chance of being accepted? Or is this just based on who has the highest GRE scores? I was hoping that some of you may also be experiencing something similar. For the record, when I contacted the admissions office, the woman told me that that's a financial aid question. When I called financial aid they said it was an admissions decision. To the rest of you waiting, good luck!
