  1. I'm going to check out Regent's Park on the 30th when I fly up to visit. It looks rather nice and I think it is worth paying a bit more for comfortable place if you are in it for the long haul and got a stipend.
  2. Just got my rejection today, so they might just be sending out the rejection notices last for some reason.
  3. Almost certainly going to Chicago in the Fall. Definitely going for my department's visitation day in April.
  4. Tengo una carta de rechazo en mí e-mail... More tolerable to say it in Spanish since I can only think in English.

    Snail Mail

That... is a really good idea! I know what I'm doing tonight.
  6. Congratulation to all y'all MAPSS folk!
  7. I was wondering who else gets annoyed at snail mail notifications. I have only gotten one so far, a Harvard rejection, but, regardless of the result, I was throughly annoyed by it. Before I even opened it I thought, "You're Harvard freaking University but you're not tech savvy enough to send an e-mail?" I guess this reaction shows my age and a formal letter is a bit classier but it still urked me.
  8. Aye, more than a few other schools are still keeping people in the dark. A date, even if tentative, is a comfort.
  9. I may have got a shaman and some Mexicatholic family to do some work/prayer to get me in and forced myself to be optimistic. Though, the more I learn about Chicago the better it sounds.
  10. This may be a bit of a thread necro but I can confirm this as well, at least up until 2009. I was socio-cultural but I did a field school, lab work, and got a letter of recommendation from an archeology prof who was not particularly happy with many aspects of the Cal anthro department, to the point that this prof recommended I go to another school if I got in and they offered me better funding. Unfortunately, this person's displeasure was known and, from what I gather, summarily dismissed by many of the socio-cultural folk. There was more than a little speculation that this person's would leave if given the opportunity and for many reasons I would not assign them any blame. And I write this while considering myself much closer to the more postmodern, socio-cultural corner of our discipline. Gah, replacing gendered pronouns for anonymity makes my writing sound incredibly awkward...
  11. Seriously, I may have bombed a Spanish test because I couldn't concentrate. The desire to check my e-mail was taking the space in my brain that a conditional tense needed.
  12. I really hope that this time they are using the word before to mean... you know... before!
  13. I got into the Ph.D. program for Cultural Anth but am still holding out for Stanford (even though I like Chicago better) since it is closer to me and I know of short-sale houses there that are cheaper than renting. If I get in I am likely to go to Stanford and you can have my spot. Feel free to pray, hope, or do some black magic for me to get in.
  14. Stanford is driving me crazy. Got my Berkeley rejection, which sucks since they were my alma mater. Got into Chicago, which is awesome since they are my favorite outside of my state, but I want to stay in California. I repeat, Stanford is driving me crazy.
