  1. Well you can also elect to do 3 years at SMFA if you want. I think about half the MFA students decide to continue on for a 3rd year, but I also heard that they only give 3rd year students studio space if their work requires it... Two of my favorite undergrad professors came out of the SMFA, one of them chose to do the 3rd year and was a big fan of it. Was one of the factors that lead me to pick SMFA over another program. She said that during your first year you just get really beaten up over your work, second year you start to come up with newer and better ideas, and so by the time the end of the second year rolls around you're in a good spot productivity-wise and conceptually-wise. So then it'd be good to keep that going for a third year where you can only continue developing. On some places on SMFA's website it says the third year is free but I'm pretty sure during the interview day I remember hearing them mention something along the lines of $13,000 for a third year, so... not 100% sure on that.
  2. I'm going as well. anyone want to swap emails or websites? itd be nice to get to know each other a little bit ahead of time.
  3. I'm curious, why do you say SVA is too commercial? because when I visited I somewhat got that impression from the admissions counselor I met with.
  4. I got a $9000 merit scholarship per year for two years, so $18k total if I take it. I lived in Boston when I did my undergrad. I lived in dorms all years except spring semester junior year and had to pay $825 a month in an apartment with 3 other people. Rent is ridonkulous. The summer after my graduation I lived in an apartment with 5 other people and only had to pay $350. that was awesome, altho it meant living with a direct roommate, I was used to it after doing it for all of undergrad. and the apartment was incredibly bad, but hey it was super cheap for Boston.
  5. Thanks! got into SVA's MFA Fine Arts program. also I should add I got a merit scholarship to SMFA so that will help with the cost factor for tuition. but neither New York or Boston are cheap cities to live in.
  6. Hey guys Just found out I was accepted into SVA. adds to my list of acceptance at SMFA and rejection from CalArts. any thoughts on the merits of the fine arts programs at SMFA and SVA?
  7. Congrats man. When and how you hear from SVA?
  8. congrats on getting into SMFA guys, I got the acceptance call yesterday too. is anyone having to decide between SMFA and any other programs? I'm probably going to choose SMFA but haven't heard from back from 2 places yet and also haven't heard about scholarships or funding. ps did I meet any of you guys at the all day interview??
