  1. Somebody posted an acceptance on Feb. 25 via phone. The graduate coordinator told the student "that they are still making decisions and that she will mail (post) and email letters next week." We shall see...

  2. Hey guys,

Sorry to hear about the recent wave of rejections. Stay strong!

I haven't gotten any news, so who knows what that means. I tend to assume that programs have forgotten about me...

Quick question: what's the word on UT-Austin? I haven't heard anything, but there seem to be rumblings on the forum/results.

    Happy Monday, crew!

Below is the link to the application status check for UT-Austin. I don't know if the anthro decisions have been made, but the history decisions were available. I got dinged.

  3. Are there any applicants to Michigan's Anthro & History doctoral program browsing the forums? It is a small, specialized program that does not attract as many applicants as straight anthro or history, but I am curious if there is anyone else interested in this program out there in internets land.

  4. Those of you waiting to hear back from Yale, What do you think or their cultural anthro program in general? why did you apply? What other programs would you compare it to?

I am interested in Yale because a few of the faculty share my research interests. That is the primary attraction. I know very little about the program in general. When do we expect to hear from Yale? Any action?

  5. Hi everyone,

I'm the one who posted the Oregon/Leipzig/Michigan acceptances on the results search thing... I posted them here too a little while ago but didn't realize the results search existed until yesterday. Still waiting on Harvard and Yale. Anyone else?

Yes, I am waiting for both Yale and Harvard. But, I am in the sociocultural group. If I remember correctly, both programs had January deadlines. Does anyone know when they usually notify? Has anyone heard anything?

  6. Crap. So it's starting to look like those who got into Chicago have been contacted. Anyone care to disagree and make my day?

I am also waiting to hear from Chicago. Have folks received official letters from Chicago? Or, have they been notified by potential advisers via email?

  7. Good luck to all the Columbia Anthro applicants. Although I am not in the anthro department, I am a current Columbia grad student (and applicant). I can tell you that it is an exciting place to be right now. Over the past decade, they have amassed a fine group of scholars under the direction of Nick Dirks. From my understanding, things were pretty dismal in the early nineties. What are your sub-fields/areas of interest?

  8. Is anyone anticipating the new NRC rankings? Rumors circulating the net suggest a mid-Feb. release date. They've been delayed so many times in the past few years that I will be shocked if they appear in the next few days. Which programs will rise and which will fall?

  9. Hi,

Berkeley is just down the road from me and I match up well with my advisor, so it is a perfect fit for me. I will be in an Asian field, but I'd prefer not to blow my cover. Congrats on your acceptance, also!

I lived in SF for a few years and I would love to be back in the Bay Area. But I am still waiting to hear back from a few others programs before I make a final decision.

  10. It's always a party in Dwinelle Hall. Congrats on the acceptance. What is your area of interest? Are you seriously considering Berkeley?

A little late for the party

I received a personal email from my professor on Feb. 10th telling me that I had been accepted into Berkeley. I didn't receive official notice until I checked my spam filter.
