well, i've been calling around...and after talking with a few people it seems that it might be hard to find a good place to live right now. i haven't had any luck with finding a room on craigslist yet... i was told that in jan. most realtors know whose graduating and moving out in may...so the house/space is rented out pretty early. then some people lease a space starting in june, but sublet it for the summer to a friend so they have an apt waiting for them in august. so housing is pretty slim until july...but who knows what will be available. then again, that's the rap from some random guy i talked to on the phone. i might postpone my trip to providence until july. ugh. i didn't think it would be this hard to find a place to stay.

@joonam_oh! that sounds good! I'll book mine for the end of may sometime this week! seriously, there's hardly any math. you really don't need it anymore with computers. it mostly learning to scale things up and down. the school I went to is heavily design based and less structural engineering.

@joonam_ you know, architecture doesn't involve as much math as people usually think. we leave that to the structural engineers. I need to start looking for a place and book a flight for next month. @cate k_that sounds like an awesome idea! maybe i can find someone in Texas to do that with.

printmaking! that is so awesome! i was thinking craigslist as well--but i have a cat i'm pretty partial to. i'm doubting there's a pet friendly room renter out there. may have to look for an apt. :[ July or august is a good time to head out there. you will fall in love! both schools offered me the same amout of finical aid. art center offered a renewable scholarship as well; while risd offered me a fellowship and a TA position. so, it pretty much evens out. i'm actually leaving for LA tomorrow to visit art center on thursday. hoping art center offers TA positions as well. it might tip the scale. renting a house with a bunch of people would be sweet, but like you I have no connections to make that happen. how many years is printmaking? is that what you majored in when you were in undergrad? I've always tried to take printmaking in school, but our school wasn't very interdisciplinary.

hello! I'm looking to attend either art center (Industrial Design) or risd (Furniture Design) at the moment. i'll have a decision by the end of this week hopefully, but leaning toward risd. i'm also planning to live off campus, but not really sure where to start looking. i might plan a trip up there again soon to find a place. i really need somewhere close to campus, because i'm going to leave my car. i'm from texas, so i would probably just crash it into something while driving in the snow. in regards to the actual move, might hire movers. have you gone to visit the school yet? what program are you in? are you thinking apartment or renting a room from someone?
  8. extension granted! whew!... and true that--in regards to the money thing. what's 500 bucks compared to the cost of graduate school. it will be three years at risd, two at art center... that's pretty great you could take continuing ed at pratt! excited about the trip tuesday!
  9. Pratt sounds like the perfect fit then! That's really exciting--and you already live in NY! I've asked RISD for an extension, but haven't heard anything back yet. I just need a extra week, but from the looks of it I doubt they'll be too understanding of my situation...I have a meeting with ArtCenter the 14th, and RISD's deposit is due the next day. I'm thinking maybe I'll same day RISD the deposit and email them Friday if I decide to go there. ugh. two weeks to make a life changing decision is just not enough time. i feel like I should know where I want tog o by now, but just don't.
  10. as of now it's between RISD's Furniture Design program and Art Center's Industrial Design Program. I'm going to visit ArtCenter next week. I did already give them their deposit though. I called and they said acceptance is on a first come basis, and that i could put down the deposit and later decline. I hadn't seen the school yet and didn't want to lose out. I'm worried about looking like an ass after visiting and accepting and then resending my application. it's a big decision though, and they don't give you time to make one, so hopefully they'll understand. :/
  11. congrats schaf100 on your acceptances!
  12. ah! you may have a lighter wallet, but that's so exciting! i probably just need to just send risd its money now anyway. I'm 90% sure that's where I'll be going. I think I'll be living off campus as well. I've never lived in a dorm, nor am I great with roommates. I'll need to strat researching soon! I'll keep you guys posted with the visit to art center!
  13. @NUcat72_do we just send the Admissions Dept. an email declining the offer? I actually didn't get to leave for LA! my flight was canceled at midnight (I flew out at 6am) and I couldn't get ahold of the person i was staying with...moved the trip to next week (Tuesday), which is cutting it really close to RISD's deadline--I'll let you know how it goes! I already sent ArtCenter their $200, because they take people on a first come basis. they said I could still decline if I wanted. So, I'll probably be out $200 by the end of all of this. ah well. I started a new topic, on this, but I'm assuming no one has any ideas yet, but maybe you do...any leads on good apt housing near RISD? i'm pretty clueless about the area, and i'm trying to figure out if on campus housing is the best option or not. @helsinki_i don't know too much, but i do know carleton is a very highly ranked school in canada. to me it seemed like their program is very interdisciplinary which is very important to me. you know, grad school is what you make of it. name dropping and whatnot might be important to somet, but it really comes down to your work and what you're interested in pursuing. since your undergrad is engineering, then i would consider going anyway...especially if you have almost a full ride. I myself am 25 and have an undergrad in architecture. I graduated two years ago this May. honestly, I don't have much professional experience in the field. i'm assuming my portfolio is my strong point. jobs are hard to come by around here. I worked for an arch firm as an intern last summer, and just recently started working for my professor's firm. I did, while working at a transplant immunology lab to make some dollars, participate in a number of competitions in both architecture and painting...I keep myself pretty busy. you could either go for grad school now, or wait and reapply next year--and within that year really focus on your design work and portfolio--what you want to pursue. chin up though. I think you still have a great option. it will all work out.
  14. I received an email, as did a friend of mine. @NUcat72_ if you get in are you still planning on risd. pratt gave me 50% of the scholarship art center did and 25% risd did...so they're out. for sure.
  15. helsinki: chin up. carleton has a great program.
