  1. Which area are you looking at? I'm joining GaTech in the Fall for the PhD program in graphics, but I've been there for two years now as a Masters student so maybe I can be of some help. PM me if that's easier.
  2. I believe their recruitment weekend flier is sent along the with official offer of acceptance (by snail mail/courier). I just picked up my letter from the office so I was handed a flier. I'm positive that they will get in touch with you via email to handle travel arrangements etc. if you are not currently a Tech student. Have you received an offer from Ga Tech? If so, drop me a PM - I'll try my best to help.
  3. From what I know, the first round of acceptances for all programs under CoC have been mailed out. There's a PhD recruitment weekend towards end March and perhaps they might look to offer admission to others somewhere closer to that point. I don't know much more I'm afraid, this was about all I found out when I talked to the folks at admissions.
  4. That's fantastic! Congratulations and I hope you have a great year ahead.
  5. I'm not sure if this is the best way, but what I did was : - Asked my advisor for a list of what he believed to be the best programs in graphics - Looked up websites of these schools and of the professors (many leave old pages, so it helps to verify if they are still at that school) - Graphics is still quite broad, so I narrowed my list down to schools that had atleast a couple of ongoing projects in my research area (animation) - Checked the last 5 years of Siggraph to see which school the authors were from - Met a lot of interesting people at the last Siggraph, and got their thoughts on applying to their school etc. Hope this helps.
  6. Husky: Thanks ! I received an email from the College of Computing. Does the HCC program fall under the College of Computing? I'll check with my other friends who applied today (one of them told me that he applied to CoC and hadn't heard and he had a fantastic profile). My stats: 630V, 800Q, A:5.5/6, and an 820 in the CS GRE. Graduated close to the top of my batch in undergrad, and a GPA of 3.9 during my Masters. Publications: one paper at an international workshop and another at an ACM conference as a co-author. I've been working with my to-be advisor on a research project for the past 8 months and with another professor for about 1.5 years on a different area (close to publishing our work this semester).
  7. Good luck psych! I hope you make it too! Please let me know
  8. Phew. I'm in. Again, thanks for helping me out through this crazy day. Three more schools to hear from and this little chapter can be closed.
  9. Is it considered impolite to enquire if all decisions of a department are out? I'd love to know if they are done with all CS applications. I yearn for a sense of closure.
  10. I received my admit from Georgia Tech this evening (around 4pm EST). I applied to the Graphics group at the College of Computing. But, I know for a fact that there are multiple rounds of admission, so don't fret it. A number of my friends in the PhD program received _really_ late acceptance emails from Georgia Tech.
  11. I'm guessing this has no bearing on the admission decision whatsoever. The email is most unlike any open house email that I've received so far. fwiw, my Columbia application also has status listed as 'pending'.
  12. I like this. I wish I could possess some of this nobility. I tend to act like the uncivilized clod during the wait. It's quite remarkable that my friends still tolerate me
  13. Not yet, but my advisor said he thinks there has been some mix up. This gets curiouser and curiouser. I don't know what to feel at this moment.
  14. When I applied for my Masters, I received 7 rejects before the final 3 acceptances, so don't fret it. Some of my friends received their PhD admits on/past the 15th April deadline, so hope isn't dead till the very end. Don't fret it (easy to say I know!).
