  1. My notification came to my inbox at 7:10 EST last year. I'm holding my breath for tomorrow morning...
  2. Let's hope so. Isn't it said that it's always good to fire someone on a Friday instead of a Monday?
  3. Do they generally post the results on the website before sending out the email notifications? (Or perhaps both are done at the same time?)
  4. There is really no point (in my opinion) applying that far in advance. For one thing, you will presumably have more experience/publications/grades/awards/etc. by the time the actual deadline rolls around, and it seems better to just send everything in at once rather than sending in the bulk of the application extremely early and then sending frequent updates.
  5. I just called to see what the "within the next week" meant and apparently "within a week from today." I have no idea how soon that will actually be; the operator at the GRFP office sounded really annoyed by my call and didn't give me any more information.
  6. The area around Northeastern is not just filled with undergraduates. There are a lot of medical students and professionals in the area as it is close to the Longwood Medical and Academic Area. Personally, I would recommend Somerville, which is right next to Cambridge. If you get a monthly T-pass, it is not that bad of a commute to the Northeastern area via the Red/Green lines. Somerville is a bit more inexpensive than many of the other areas in the Boston area and has quite a few good restaurants, cafes, etc...
  7. My vote is for April 8th.
  8. It is completely unfair to the applicants to require them to reply earlier than April 15th after initially stating a reply deadline of April 15th. If I were you, I would call (not email!) the director of admissions and have a discussion about the email you received.
  9. Assuming I don't get any of the Cambridge Trusts awards, are there any other reasonable scholarships to cover the cost of studying for the CASM in Mathematics at Cambridge? If so, is it too late in the game to apply for them for use during the upcoming academic year? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  10. Two of the schools I am currently considering for pure math are the CUNY Graduate Center and the University of Washington Seattle. I know a good amount about each school, but I'd to know what other people think in terms of which one is better for mathematics. If anyone has attended or has other experience with either one, I would gratefully welcome any input.
