  1. Someone in my department got an award notification in early May last year, so I don't think that the mid-April deadline is necessarily true. It is also possible that he was on a waitlist.
  2. I think that likely a lot of these shortlist emails were sent out. Already I have found out that myself and 3 other graduate students in my program (biosciences) received the shortlist e-mail, and one person from my program was rejected. And this is only out of the handful of people that I happened to see during the day today. Last year only 1 student from my program received this award.
  3. I got the "still being considered" e-mail and am also biosciences. I really hope you are right, FrankForum! It seems like there's an awful lot of us getting these e-mails though to have all gotten awards!
  4. Here are my scores: E/E E/VG E/VG Honorable Mention This is my first year applying, but I am a second year graduate student so no more chances for me! Does anyone have an idea about how many awardees accept the fellowship? (i.e. how many HM's are up-graded to award?) I know a couple of people over the past years who received HMs and ended up getting the award because some awardees declined, but I have no clue how common that is!
  5. Thanks coffeecoffee... what field are you in? I know that it completely depends on the field. e.g. in biomedical sciences the NSF probably doesn't make much difference, since there's enough $$ to support all PhD students anyways, but in fields like engineering, that are more funding dependent, it might hold more weight.
  6. Thanks Sydney. What field are you in? I know that might be true of some fields like engineering, but what about biomedical science?
  7. Hi everyone! So, I'm trying to coordinate schools with my boyfriend and it's become quite difficult. I was accepted to UCSF, which I LOVED, but he was rejected from Berkeley. He was accepted to MIT, which he loves, but I was rejected (well, I suppose unofficially, I didn't hear anything from them) from Harvard. Right now I'm thinking about what could potentially happen if one of us receives the NSF or NDSEG fellowship. Is it possible to reverse rejections with this fellowship? I'm talking specifically about UC Berkeley's EECS program and Harvard's BBS (biological and biomedical sciences) program. Has anyone heard of people being able to get acceptances to these programs late in the game after receiving external funding? THANKS
