Unfortunately since I am neither a US citizen nor a permenant resident, It would be impossible for me to take any sort of action other than send an extremely disapproving email (which I have already done). I just hope and pray that such an incident is not repeated with me or with any hopeful applicant in the years to come.

Well, I hardly assumed anything. This was what was written on the website on 6th march "File currently at the foreign students office : Congratulations, your file has received favorable review from the graduate department and is currently at the foreign students office for visa compliance. Check back within 7 days for the status to change to ADMITTED. " and after a day "Wait list : The program to which you have applied has asked the Graduate Admissions Office to place your name on the program's waiting list. If admissions slots open up, one or more of the applicants on the wait list may be offered admission. Contact the graduate program for more information." I just told you as it was in the website.

Hi there, I am sure u have not heard this one before. I had applied to UMass Amherst and as I was checking my application status on March 6th, the website said " file at foreign students office for Visa compliance". I though that meant an admit and was thinking of packing my bags. About a day later the website said" wait listed" and I just wanted to die. From then onwards, I haven't heard anything from them. I really dunno what exactly happened over there and i still ain't sure as to when they are gonna make a decision.

Hi there, I had applied to Umass Amherst for PhD in mol bio. I was told on 6th march that my file was in the foreign students office and a day later my status was changed to 'waitlisted' . Dunno what they are playing at. keeping my fingers crossed.
