I GOT IN TOO!!!!!!!! I am so incredibly happy!!!!!!!!

Wow. That blog is pretty intense. Well at least they gave them very concrete advice about how to approach the waitlist process. I have been left in limbo wondering if I should be trying to send new materials, references, stay in touch with admissions, etc. But my SO actually dealt with the WL process too and ended up being accepted, so I know it's possible, although he was in a very different program (PhD in the sciences at MIT - hence why I did not just forget about HKS and enroll at Georgetown or SAIS). As for HKS, I am keeping my fingers crossed for an update next Monday, since that will be one week after their extended deadline, and the last promised update was to be one week after the original deadline.

For the information of those on the HKS waitlist, I was told today (by someone on the Admissions staff) that Kennedy will definitely NOT be meeting their prior deadline of responding to waitlisted applicants by May 1. They said it would "surely be after May 1", but did not specify any further. On the one hand, it is unfortunate to have to wait longer. On the other hand, if they were already positive they were not going to accept people off of the WL, they would not need the extra time to figure things out - so that may be a good sign. At least I don't have to check my email obsessively until next week!

I'm a little confused as to why the rise in apps would lead them to accept fewer people than usual. Because they assume they will have a higher yield than before due to the increased interest? But they may have miscalculated? Which may be reflected in the extended deadline as they did not receive as many responses as expected?

Thanks for the input younglions and MCNeelified. I wonder if the extended deadline means a longer wait for the waitlisters too (they originally said they would respond by this upcoming Friday.)

Well does anyone want to speculate as to how their yield compared? It seems to me a good number of people on this board alone turned down HKS, often because of the complete lack of funding. That may just be wishful thinking on my part, since I am hoping for a waitlist miracle still!

Has anybody who was waitlisted anywhere heard back yet? I think HKS said they will update within the next week, which sort of makes me feel like its decision week all over again!

I guess I should clarify that I am curious if anyone is planning to turn them down...

Just curious because I am on the wait list. Anybody know anything about how many people are on the list, how many they usually take, etc? Thanks!

Exactly what I needed to know! Thank you very much and I hope you get an offer at WWS, if that is what you want! I may end up accepting offers at more than one place, bc my SO is on three wait lists, so we have no idea what is going to happen at this point. Good luck to everyone else who is in WL limbo.

I thought I would start a thread for people who are on wait lists at various programs and need to commiserate or just ask questions about how it works. My main concern is, how can I wait for an offer without missing the deadlines from other programs? I asked one program about an extension on the deadline but they said it won't be possible. Can I accept an offer and then turn it down if I am taken off the wait list? I really have no clue about any of this.

It's definitely a possibility. It's funny because I always imagined when I heard from all of my schools, it would be an easy decision, but I like Berkeley, Fletcher, MSFS and SAIS, plus I am interested to see if I can get off the WL at HKS (although thats prob a long shot). So I have a lot of thinking to do...

I'll make that trade! I have 2/3 tuition at MSFS for both years. Any takers?

Speaking of aid, is HKS one of those places where people on the WL have no shot at funding? If so, it may not be worthwhile for me to wait around...
