I think we would have better luck trying to get into the pants of super models than getting a truthful response from them at this point.

Instead of dragging this out, why not just tell those of us that are at the bottom of the barrel that we don't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting an award (I'd even be okay if my email having an evil laugh attached to it) and then make all the people who are 'qualified' sweat out till the last minute. Just more proof that the government is made up of a bunch of sadists.

I think you guys are misunderstanding the motivation of the suspicion of several people in this thread...before drawing conclusions about the 'nastiness' of the thread, a rereading of some of the discussion earlier on may be helpful...

Worth noting: This blog (and comments) from 2006 reflects that results were sent out at differing times. http://quantombone.b...bout-ndseg.html

I'm not 100% convinced something has to be sent out during working hours, since a computer's got to be the one sending out notifications - it could be an entirely automated process of Get List -> Sort By Decision -> Create Emails -> Send Emails. So...I'm not giving up on today until it's midnight, haha.

    NDSEG: DO WANT

Seriously think they will release results today? That would mean they are on time... not like the feds

I called about five minutes ago and the operator informed me that the results will definitely be released tomorrow via email.

I have never been more eager to wait on a rejection notice as I am with the NDSEG.

This forum is so much less energetic that GRFP. Granted we're a smaller bunch...and probably have been been rejected recently (or else why would you still care about NDSEG because you can't have NDSEG and GRFP both).... But...stay strong people!! Only a few more days....hopefully.....

I doubt a definite-sounding answer necessarily implies certainty given the ones answering the phones likely are not determining the budget or deciding policy of any sort. That being said, we might have on our hands a case similar to the 2009 announcements, as I think has been noted several times before. If NSF does make announcements next week *fingers crossed*, it might very well be only the first of several rounds until our beloved Congress sorts out the budget dispute and NSF knows exactly how much money it has for the GRFP...

Just remember folks, the most likely outcome is a no HM reject. It'll hurt less if you don't get excited about it.

My fellow grad cafe visitors. We are here today to honor hope. We wait with anxious anticipation for a simple email that could make all the difference. It could mean funded research, acceptance into grad school, or not dropping out of grad school. It could mean simple validation.

We are hopeful because we think we have a chance at receiving a fellowship; if we did not think so, we would not have applied. We are hopeful because we successfully whittled down our past accomplishments and future goals to 4 total pages. We are hopeful for a GRFP because we still can be. We can picture ourselves receiving that email and staring in blissful disbelief. We can hear ourselves calling our parents to tell them with pride and excitement.

Given past notification times and dates, we may receive news in a few hours or a week. I challenge you now not to spend these moments commiserating and kvetching but celebrating. Maybe you have research plans to discover new applications of block copolymers, to combat human trafficking, or to evaluate the feasibility of carbon sequestration. Celebrate your research and its positive societal impacts, and embrace whatever hope you have for the future. Acknowledge that the future holds new challenges, rewards, and disappointments.

No one on this board is going to tell you if you received a fellowship. An email read at 10 am is going to convey the same information that it did at 1 am. Disappointment sucks, but hope.... that rocks. So celebrate.

There is a that you should definitely keep an eye on.

To answer your question: both fellowships promise announcements in early April. In the linked NDSEG thread, however, one person contacted the office associated with the NDSEG and found they are waiting on DoD for something, presumably information regarding this fiscal year, which is, of course, still up in the air in Congress. NSF has given no indication (at least by the information presented in this present thread) that their announcement dates are dependent upon the current budget debate.

Hopefully NSF's lack of comment on the issue can be taken as a good thing. An earlier poster called/emailed about this issue and was told they have no information about it....
