  1. just got an email and got nervous. this is like last year applying to grad school all over again
  2. 2011 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Competition Result that was the subject on my rejection
  3. 2005 9-Apr Sat 2006 30-Mar Thu 2007 26-Mar Mon 2008 31-Mar Mon 2009 10-Apr Fri 2010 6-Apr Tue 2011 5-Apr Tue reminder of the dates they released it before. March 29-30 isn't outlandish
  4. lol @ comment on http://www.facebook.com/NSFGRFP
  5. thousands of grad students are calling their bros right now... 33 users at 8:03PST
  6. well i can't log in, that's a good sign!
  7. i almost applied under marine bio too, but the geosciences umbrella scared me away.
  8. well... ~10 minutes, give or take i'm assuming
  9. indeed. what's everyone applying in? i'm doing ecology, which is scary because that's a huge field and my reviewers might not be as familiar with my focus as they could be (then again, this could work both ways, e.g., my terrible ideas sounding genius to someone unfamiliar with the field)
  10. 53 minutes and i better not be able to load fastlane
  11. Im tempted to call the NSF GRFP headquarters and if anyone picks up just go AH-HA! and hang up.
  12. the maintenance notices are on https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/index.jsp and the bottom is speculation
  13. yeah it's really annoying, probably more so if you don't get it because you're like wtf?!?! i thought my application was awesome haha
  14. FastLane will be unavailable from 11:00 PM ET Thursday March 29th - 5:00 AM ET Friday March 30th for scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience. FastLane will be unavailable from 12:01 AM to 8:00 AM ET Sunday April 1st for scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience. Tonight = announce winners Sunday = upload rating sheets ?
  15. Does the fastlane site ever actually go down for other updates? I remember there being an update a little bit ago, but I could still load the website. What I'm getting at is to what degree the website going down at 8:00 would be indicative of them uploading the awards (someone else was hinting at this earlier too).
  16. so... if we were to call the grfp headquarters past 5:30 EST (the time that people go home on a typical workday) and someone were to answer, that would indicate that they were there past the normal work time. there doesn't seem much reason for a GRFP person to be at work late unless it's the "big night." overanalysis is fun
  17. same here. i've got 2 abstracts and a proposal to write and it's really hard to focus. i just wanna know so i can know if i need to keep prepping for next year's app
  18. I think all fields are going to be like that because it's inherent in the peer-review process. On the broad scale, stronger applicants get selected more than weaker applicants, but at the fine scale where you're comparing individuals that are probably so (relatively, think all applicants from the best universities to those that weren't able to be accepted into grad school) similar in achievement that they're in the same program, there's going to be pretty substantial discrepancies.
  19. hey guys i'm in a situation where i can't use a phone, but if someone were to call fastlane/NSF, they would probably tell you if tonight is about the grfp. people have called in the past years and received reliable information that way.
  20. it's almost like we should have a contingency plan for meeting on another forum with a heavy duty server for when this one crashes haha
