  1. Columbia - Biomed admit!! Great. Congrats I guess, I am going to Columbia.
  2. Thanks a lot. It really helped. Actually, I have a vague idea about getting into a Phd program after MS. To be honest, I didn't make the decision yet. But I always prefer to keep the Phd door open for me. So, if I think in that way then I guess Columbia is the deal.
  3. I am concerned mostly because of the poor on campus job placement scenario of Columbia. It seems that major Computer Engineering companies don't visit the career fairs. So, I have to search jobs only by myself (online, networking etc etc). What is your opinion in this issue ? I don't know about the weight of Columbia- tag in engineering jobs.
  4. Hello, I got admission in the ECE department. I did plenty of research about the Cornell MEng but I don't know a lot about the Columbia engineering. I am in doubt about the industry reputation and job placement scenario of Columbia SASE. Everyone is saying that the industries know columbia for their business and law school. So, I want to know a bit more about the placement scenario in engineering. Does the major companies visit the campus in career fairs? Both of these schools have great courses in EE. Please help me and share your thoughts.
  5. Actually, I also got admission in ECE-Meng. So, I am trying my best to contact with seniors and past Meng students from Cornell to know more about that program. According to them- it doesn't matter! They said that most of the major companies visit Cornell in the career fairs and the "Cornell" tag will help a lot to get interview calls. I'm not sure about going to other fields for ECE guys like us. The CS people has that opportunity to end up in various financial companies because these companies need CS. So, for CS, it may happen. I don't know about ECE. Try to do research as much possible before getting in. I'm also confused and still trying to know more about that program.
  6. One year program doesn't matter a lot. You have to take minimum 30 credits (even more than that if you can do it). So, considering the number of credits, it's same as the other 2 year MS. Moreover, this program also gives the opportunity to do research. There is a research track where you can take 7 credits of research per semester instead of MEng design project. I did plenty of research on Cornell MEng. So, it's not a disadvantage if you think about job. The only problem is, it doesn't offer funding and you won't get enough time to do part time job or hang out !
  7. Congrats! Does they offer fellowship to MEng students ? I Didn't know that. I contacted with some students from Cornell and they seemed to be very pleased with this MEng program! According to them Cornell worth that amount of cost. You will be slightly in debt but in my case it's huge !!
  8. I also think that it will be a good investment. The problem is, I don't have any internship experience and if I enroll to Cornell, I won't get the opportunity to do a internship before graduation. Is that a huge disadvantage ? I talked with some Cornell MEng students and they told me that, with job/internship experience it is possible to get offer before the end of first semester! It seems that, recruiters do value Cornell a LOT! I am confused about my situation. Do you have any internship or job experience ?
  9. Thanks you for sharing your thoughts. I have applied for MS (not Phd- I don't want to go for Phd) to all the graduate schools. So, I can assume that, I won't get funding from other schools. I am waiting for U of W, NCSU, Columbia and got the admission offer from USC without funding. Same case for USC- I have to take loans as they don't offer funding for MS. Cornell provides the opportunity to do thesis and research in MEng. I confirmed that after talking with some MEng students. You got my point! I am also thinking the same thing- "does that MEng worth 50K ?" I am waiting for other admits. Let's see what happen. I am damn confused.
  10. There is research opportunity in Cornell MEng. They have a 7 credit/sem MEng research track. You can check their course directory to find out more. But I am sure about that. I also talked with a MEng student from Cornell. YOU CAN DO RESEARCH IF YOU WANT. I also got admission in Cornell. It's damn costly
  11. Hello, I got admission in Cornell MEng program (ECE). My undergrad major was wireless communication and I am planning to switch to computer architecture/embedded system. Though I'm US resident, I got my college degree from outside US. So, I don't have any work/internship exp. in US which is the worst side of my resume. I am confused whether to enroll in Cornell or not because it's very costly and I have to take federal loans. It is a two semester (fall 2011 + spring 2012) program. So, I won't get the opportunity to do internship before graduation. Is that a HUGE disadvantage ? As far I know, Cornell MEng is highly valued in the industry and their job placement is great. Cornell also has good Computer architecture research and courses. Moreover the Cornell brand is hard to overlook. I have to take 50K loan (direct + PLUS loan) to fund my graduate study in Cornell. So, I want to do research as much as possible before taking the decision. I also got admission in USC and waiting for - Columbia, NCSU. I would greatly appreciate if I get some advice from experienced seniors in this regard. I have to take the decision before April 15. Thanks in advance.
