  1. I'm looking into PhD programs, probably for next year's application season but I'm trying to work on my school/adviser list. I'm interested in prints and other works on paper, mainly late 19th and 20th century but also the history of the mediums. Working outside of the usual period specialties makes this a bit challenging. I have a few people in mind but does anyone have any suggestions for expanding my list?

Thank you all for a great debate yesterday! It definitely gave me a lot to think about. I'd love to hear more of your opinions about Williams and other MA programs. Feel free to PM me if you'd like.

So I've been reading through lots of the forums and trying to get a better feeling for different schools. I've read a lot about how Williams is such an incredible program and one of the most respected MAs in Art History. I was just wondering if anyone could help me out by telling me why. I've heard about the winter travel and the graduate symposium which sound wonderful. Not having PhD students to compete with must also be great but I looked at the program and it looks like they don't really have big name scholars and offer very few courses because it's so small. I also can't imagine living that far from a major city but that might just be me. I'm interested in modern and contemporary and don't want to pass up a school that could be great for me but beyond the reputation I just don't know. I know so many big names have come out of Williams but is it just a training ground to prepare for a PhD? Any comments from students attending or considering the school would be great!
  4. I had to register just to get this out! I turned in my application to a school in November and was invited a couple of weeks later to be flown out for free to interview in mid-January. So exciting, right? Except the interview didn't go particularly well. I was a bit upset but I went back home and decided to hope for the best but wait for my probable rejection. So I've been waiting.....and waiting. I saw acceptances go out in February for the very small class so I expected my letter soon after. I emailed them in late February and was told decisions would go out by mid-March. Fine...I waited some more. Then as mid-March came I got nothing. I called the office and they said now maybe by late March. So I emailed the DGS to see if I could get any sort of status update and a week later they still haven't responded. I haven't heard a word from my POI after I sent a thank you email in January about the interview. Is it totally crazy for me to be getting this worked up? I just feel like this is an excessive wait. If I'm waitlisted, just tell me! If I'm rejected, it can't be that hard to have someone send me a letter. I wouldn't even hope for a personalized email from these people at this point. I think this process may have driven me insane.
