  1. I am almost in the same scenario myself; Though I am yet to hear from 5 schools (hope is a dangerous thing), I am 0/6 in 2008 and 0/9 in 2009 till now. Don't know what I am gonna do this year. The best option that comes to my mind is enrolling in graduate classes like Real Analysis, Topology, or Complex Analysis in a good neighboring university, and proving that you can at least handle the course load. Adding good grades in higher level classes to your transcript should certainly help the cause next time around.
  2. I am a little ignorant of what happens after April 15th. If you haven't already heard from a university, can you still get admission along with funding after April 15th? Also, why the hoopla around April 15th then.
  3. Apparently, I lost a letter detailing my application status. I was admitted and was to be told later on about the financial aid offer. Thanks for reply guys.
  4. So I got the following letter yesterday in response to my application in PhD Mathematics at UIUC; Dear Mr. ABC: Our Screening committees have now completed their work and I regret that we will no be able to offer you any form of financial aid. We had close to 350 applicants and were only able to make 27 offers. Clearly, the competition was keen and we regret having to deny support to so many deserving students. Sincerely yours, XYZ Considering that this was the first letter I got since the acknowledgment of application, I am thoroughly confused. Does it mean that I was rejected? Or I was admitted without financial aid? Could it be that I lost a letter of admission and this was the follow up? I have been trying to contact UIUC, but to no avail. So any suggestions or words of insight will be appreciated.....
