  1. I bought flowers for my two female profs and wrote them a letter. For the male professor (he's also my mentor and thesis advisor) I bought a nice bottle of wine. (The funny thing is I live on a dry campus! -- he was thrilled though). I'm getting reeeaaalllly impatient waiting for UMich. It's the only uni I haven't heard from, and oddly enough it was the first application I submitted.
  2. ElusiveMuse, have you responded to Notre Dame's offer yet? I still haven't given them a concrete response - maybe, just maybe if I wait long enough some money for first-years will miraculously appear
  3. I'm from Canada (which I suppose isn't THAT international, but it's international enough  ) Good luck on your remaining applications! And if you do end up going to Notre Dame, let me know. I'm still trying to think of creative (yet legal) ways of making money. Selling my soul on e-bay is not an option.
  4. I'd really really like to accept Notre Dame's offer, but as an international student who did an undergrad in the States, I'm incredibly poor! I'm pursuing every possible avenue of funding right now (i.e. outside scholarships), but I just don't know if it's going to happen. My field is Italian Renaissance/Mannerism/Baroque. Michigan hasn't even notified me about being on a wait list, so things really don't look good. I'm waiting on a concrete response before I start making plans though. Did you get accepted anywhere else other than Notre Dame? If so, you're lucky -- at least you've got options!
  5. Has anyone received an actual formal rejection from Michigan (Ann Arbor) yet?! The wait is driving me crazy. I've been rejected by every PhD program I've applied to -- Michigan is my last hope (other than an un-funded MA at Notre Dame).
  6. Northwestern said that they've already notified those who were accepted. Rejections have also been posted on the website, but they may take a day or two to show up.
  7. That's exactly what I thought! Their website is very misleading. I never would have applied to the program if I had known there was no tuition remission the first year. I think it's worth calling the person who notified you -- perhaps he/she can clear up the misunderstanding (and hopefully conjure up some money to give us all).
  8. As for Michigan, I haven't heard a peep! From the sounds of it, you're in much better shape than I am. I called at the beginning of the week and was told that some decisions have been made, but not all. We should find out "some time within the next few days." (whatever that means)
  9. I e-mailed the woman from Notre Dame who sent me the acceptance letter, and she said that no financial aid is open to first-year students. There are possible job openings in the libraries, but no tuition remission. Now I have to decide whether or not I can go! Second-year will be fine, but one year can still rack up quite a bill. Congratulations, by the way Will you be visiting? I'm too far away at the moment, so I can't. I've been to campus before though, and it's gorgeous! I look forward to meeting you if you decide to accept!
  10. I'm also coming straight out of undergrad. I applied to 5 PhD programs and 1 masters program, and so far I've only been accepted into the MA program. It's a great school and a wonderful opportunity, but it's a shame about the lack of financial assistance! Waiting: University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), Northwestern Accepted: Notre Dame Rejected: Yale, Duke, WashU
  11. F.Y.I. to those of you who applied to Notre Dame's MA program, I e-mailed someone from the department and was told that they'd be getting back to us all within the next ten days. Pregasauraus -- We're all rooting for you! Try not to get too discouraged; all you need is one acceptance, and you've still got four more schools to hear from. From the sounds of it, they'd be daft not to let you in. Applied - 5 Rejections - 1 (Yale) Acceptances - 0
  12. What do you think the likelihood is of getting into a school that has excluded me from recruit weekends? Is it still possible to be accepted, even if they haven't called to show any interest yet? (For example, U of Michigan has apparently already invited a few students to visit, as has Duke). I'm not feeling too confident at the moment, especially after today's Yale debacle.
  13. Would you mind sharing which would-be advisor you spoke with?
  14. Has anyone else received news from Northwestern? I applied to six schools (Duke, Yale, Michigan, Northwestern, Notre Dame, WashU) and haven't heard a peep from any of them! Thanks so much.
