  1. I didn't check out the Psych department, but I know that several departments in the Social Science's school have had their Prospective Day visits. I know that doesn't help when you need a confirmation in either direction. Lo siento! :?
  2. I heard from University of Chicago, but in Comparative Human Development. What program did you apply to?
  3. I'm not sure if they've gone through the waitlist yet, but the initial offers have been made.
  4. I think one of the most important things to consider is your major. What are you studying? That may be a good way to determine where you should go. For example, if you're studying something in the Social Sciences, it might may sense to study somewhere where there's an eclectic mix of people (culturally, financially, etc.). If you're studying Math, you're location can merely be someplace where you enjoy your surroundings. Sorry if you've already posted your major, but I didn't see it so I may be repeating. Anyhow. Every city you posted has it's good and bad qualities. What are you studying? Maybe I can be helpful, but only if I consider the whole package!
  5. Just got it in the mail today! Dated February 20, 2009.
  6. patience...something i wish i had!
  7. Thanks for the info! *sigh* rejection. It just never feels good. Ha!
  8. No, I haven't received any official notification yet. But according to the admissions info online, they don't send out official letters until the first week of March. However, my potential advisor who emailed me with acceptance info told me what's included in my package. AND when I went to the website myself, there was info on the standard package for those in Social Sciences - which was the same as what she told me. Did you look at that? Check out this article: http://chronicle.uchicago.edu/070215/graduateaid.shtml.
  9. I'll be there at that time! I'm still waiting to hear from a few places, but I like the location, and the program so there's a good chance I may be there in the fall.
  10. Anybody? Haven't even seen a lot of posts on the results page... Where are you?
  11. My contact person "informally" told me about my funding in her email, and then again when we spoke on the phone. If it's a potential advisor, they may not have all the details, but they definitely have some... You should certainly ask any questions about funding - the worse they can do is say they don't know! Still haven't received my official letter yet though!
  12. Wow, this thread is awesome! I am also a low income minority student, and managed to not be first generation due to the hard work of my parents - who by the way were not even together when they went for their grad degrees. Both JD's. And yes - still low income, but keep reading and you'll see why. My mother went back to college while I was in elementary school, then went to Law School while I was in high school. We graduated the same year. She was taking care of my sister and I, working full time, and going to school at night. As I write this I realize just how proud of her I really should be. My father got his JD while I was pre-K. He had overcome drug addiction, went to a CUNY school, and kept going right to Law School. He remarried, but we still had a relationship. He passed away in '03, but I so wish he was here to share these grad school moments with me. I have thoroughly enjoyed being "different" from the other students. I love that I don't come from a wealthy, jet-setting set. I love that I ride the train home. I love that I have had experiences that they can only imagine. I received my BFA, and MA, and will be working towards my PhD in the Fall - all from big snot-nosed universities - and I love that I have been able to live a "real" life while being there. Sure it's harder having to work, but when you graduate you get to say "I maintained a 3.875 (or probably 4.0 for most of you!) while going to school full-time, and working nights!". That means so much more than "my mom and dad paid for it and I had an allowance." Now trust me, I'm not hating on that person either - if my mommy and daddy had money to pay for it and give me an allowance I doubt that I would have said no! But this way you've worked for everything you got. And if you're in the Social Sciences like me, you've likely experienced many of the things other students in you're field have only read about. It's awesome. We offer an insight some don't have. At the end of the day, I have more people wanting to be around me than I'd actually like to be around. I embrace my "abnormality" and we all should!
  13. It's so nice to see others agonizing over this process! My phone, email, and mail box have never been checked so much! I'm assuming that I've been rejected from most programs I applied to, as others have already had interviews - but somehow I got into my first choice! I've only heard from UMich, UCLA, and UChicago for Comparative Human Development... Still waiting on everything else, but it sounds like some of you have already heard! I see NYU, Columbia, Berkeley, and Princeton have already had (or will soon have) their prospectives weekend! Is this correct? Those (plus Harvard) were the ones I was waiting on!
