  1. I have an interest in international secuirty and international political economy. I am interested in Georgetown due to the joint degree in secuirty studies-international relations and I believe that FSU is pretty strong in those two areas as well.
  2. I was wondering if anyone thinks I have a reasonable chance of getting into a Phd program for Political Science or if I need to pad my application more some how (if i do any ideas would be much appreciated. GPA Undergraduate Saint Joseph's College (Indiana) 2.59 (political science GPA was about a 3.0) GPA Graduate Ball State University 3.36 GRE I am shooting for a score around 1300-1400 (or its equivalent on the New GRE) Other aspects of my resume intern on mayoral campaign, intern for the city of Fort Wayne, volunteer at the Indiana Senate , presented a paper to the Indiana Political Science Association, working on a paralegal certificate, and I am also working on a journal article. I am looking at Georgetown (dream school, I am pretty sure I would need 1500-1600 on the GRE to even have a remote chance) or Florida State (They want a minimum of 1100 on the GRE, 3.0 undergrad, and a 3.5 graduate)
  3. Has anyone used Rosetta Stone or another language service to learn a new language? I am thinking of trying to learn Russian.
  4. I have a quick question, in regards to Florida State's Phd Program in political science . Has anyone apply here and been accepted? I have been in contact with them and they said they wanted a 3.0 undergrad and a 3.5 graduate GPA (I have a 2.59 undergraduate and a 3.36 graduate GPA) I am just wondering if I still have a chance of being accepted? I know I can differently get at least the minimum GRE (its 1100, but I am shooting for between a score of 1300-14000)
  5. Some school also offer joint programs such as Georgetown which offers a masters in secuirty studies and a PhD in International Relations. So frankly, I think its fine to apply to both.
  6. I believe, that if you apply to certain positions, the ability to speak, read, etc in a critical language enhances your application.
  7. I have decide to pick up a language (Russian) in order to improve my job application and job prospects (its considered a critical language by the federal government). Does anyone have any advice they could give me.
  8. I had a 2.58 for my undergraduate and a 3.66 for my graduate . I was told exactly the same thing from Georgetown's Security Studies program so I have to agree with evilBean. (please note that I have not been accepted or applied to Georgetown yet)
  9. I would check the GRE website where they have sample questions. (They also have software that you can download that can help you pepeare for the new GRE) (P.S. Its free )
  10. Like I said, I really am not the one to ask since I screwed up on the GRE (The grad school did not require a GRE Score and I just wanted to see how the test was like. However, in my mind it depends on how you learn. Do you learn better if someone is showing you how to go through the problems. The books they use are all similar to each other. (I have copies of Kaplan, Princeton, etc.)
  11. Quick qustion for those who were accepted. What were your gre scores like? I am asking because as an undergrad I screwed up, however I was able to get into a graduate program where I did pretty well.
  12. I have taken the prep course before but I didn't do so well on the GRE. (Its kind of my fault, because I was already accepted into a Masters program and I basically stop studying for the GRE and blew it.)
  13. I have been interested in security studies for a while and I been wondering what schools besides Georgetown and George Washington this concatenation. Does anyone know any other programs that I can look at? (I am trying to go to DC because that's where I want to work.)
  14. For those who got into the Security Studies program, can you tell me what your GRE scores were like? I am thinking of applying for Spring 2012. I have a major concern about the GRE because as an undergraduate I screwed up in regards to GPA (I had around a 2.58) but I was able to get into a graduate program (Political Science) where I had a GPA of 3.66
